INOX AIR PRODUCTS LIMITED (INDIA) is the leading manufacturer of industrial gases
and related plants and equipments in the country for over four decades. They, M/s INOX Air
Products Limited are a 50:50 Joint Venture Company formed in 1999 between former
Industrial Oxygen Company Limited (INOX) and Air Products And Chemicals Inc. (APCI)
of U. S. A. Which is a global Industrial Gases and Chemicals giant with annual revenues
exceeding US $ 8.1 bn. Having diversified interest in both the fields.
They have at our disposal the entire range of air separation technologies both in Cryogenic
and Non-Cryogenic. They are the only gas company actively operating in India in this
product segment and have so far supplied about 200 Nitrogen Gas Plants in India based on
PSA technology alone.
They have over 40 operating locations across the country including several tonnage air
separation plants owned by us for generation and distribution of various gases like Gaseous
and Liquid Oxygen, Gaseous and Liquid Nitrogen, Gaseous and Liquid Argon. Besides, we
also manufacture and supply Medical Gases, Ultra High Pure (UHP) Gases like Helium, Zero
Air, SF6, Hydrogen, Rare gases, Calibration Gases, Cryogenic and Non-Cryogenic Gas &
Liquid manufacturing Plants, Cryogenic tanks, Cylinders for export and domestic market etc.
For a particular gas requirement, we can have multiple solutions and can suggest the best
available option and the technology.
In PSA, they have this unique technology from M/s Air Products & Chemicals Inc. Of U. S.
A. With which Nitrogen gas can be produced with as low as 5-PPM Oxygen directly from
PSA plant i. E. Without any downstream purification/hydrogen in the process.

Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION TO INOX AIR PRODUCTS
INOX Air Products Ltd is one of the largest manufacturers of industrial gases in India. The
company manufactures and supplies industrial gases including Oxygen, Nitrogen, Helium,
Carbon Dioxide, Hydrogen, and speciality gas mixtures throughout India.

The company specializes in providing products, technologies and services to a vast crosssection of industries including the chemical, pharmaceutical, metals, steel, food, waste water
treatment, cement, glass, textiles, paint, medical and pulp and paper sectors.
The company is a joint venture company owned jointly by the Jain family (former owners of
the Industrial Oxygen Company) and Air Products and Chemicals Inc (APD). All Air
Products activities in India are channelled through the company.
The company is having their manufacturing facilities located at Ahmedabad, Bangalore,
Barotiwala, Bhopal, Butibori, Bokaro, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Jodhpur, Jejuri,
Kharagpur, Tadipatri, Mandi Gobindgarh, Patalganga, Pondicherry, Port Blair, Pune,
Surajpur, Thane, Tarapur, Vashind and Vishakhapatnam. INOX Air Products Ltd was
incorporated in the year 1963 as a private limited company by L K Jain and K C Godha with
the name Industrial Oxygen Company Ltd. The company became a deemed public limited
company in August 1988 and they went public in November 1993.
In the year 1987, the company, as a part of the diversification plan, promoted Gujarat
Fluorochemicals jointly with Gujarat Industrial Investment Corporation, in technical
collaboration with Stearns Catalytic Division, a division of United Engineers and
Constructors, US. Also, they entered into technical collaboration with Air Products, UK for
manufacturing high purity and speciality gases. In the year 1992, INOX (India) Ltd became
the wholly-owned subsidiary of the company. The company commissioned 100% EOU for
manufacturing disposable cylinder and also acquired the Nigen division of IBP India.
During the year 1995-96, the company commissioned two phases out of three of the project at
Nasik for manufacturing industrial gases. Also, they implemented projects at Panchmahal &
Hospet with the aggregate capacity for manufacturing 2000 cum/hr of industrial gases.
During the year, INOX Leasing and Finance Ltd became the wholly-owned subsidiary of the
company. During the year 1996-97, the company increased the installed capacity of their
industrial and medical gases to 1832.73 lakh cubic meters.
They also completed the second phase of installation of 500 cub mtrs liquid nitrogen plant at
Nasik. During the year 1999-2000, the company established a manufacturing facility for
supplying oxygen and nitrogen gas to Stainless India Ltd at Jodhpur. They also installed a
new pipeline for supplying Nitrogen to Petro Araldite Pvt Ltd. During the year 2000-01, the
name of the company was changed from Industrial Oxygen Company Ltd to INOX Air
Products Ltd.
During the year 2001-02, the company increased the production capacity of Industrial &
Medical Gases to 2928.14 Cu M. During the year 2003-04, the company installed 1200
cum/hr plant on lease basis to Sunflag Iron & Steel Company Ltd, Bhandara.
They shifted 000 Sm3/hr high purity nitrogen plant from Thane to the premises of Jindal Iron
& Steel Company Ltd (JISCO), Tarapur and simultaneously shifted the 600 Sm3/hr plant
from JISCO, Tarapur to JISCO Vashind. During the year 2004-05, the company installed 600

cum/hr to Indian Seamless Steel and Alloys Ltd and 161 TPD to SJK Steel Corporation Ltd
for the supply of gases.
Also, they supplied 400 cum/hr plant to Rathi Ispat Ltd and 300 TPD plant to Ispat Metaliks
Ltd on lease basis. During the year 2005-06, the company supplied and installed 2000 cum/hr
air separation plant at Lloyds Steel Industrial Ltd, Wardha, Maharashtra and 1260 TPD air
separation plant at Ispat Industries Ltd, Dolvi, Maharashtra on lease basis. Also, they
commissioned on site plants to supply 1500 cum/hr. of gases to Tata Metaliks Ltd,
Kharagpur,West Bengal.
In March 2006, the company entered into a shareholders agreement with BOC India Ltd, in
which, the company acquired 50% equity in Bellary Oxygen Company Pvt Ltd, promoted by
BOC India Ltd for setting up a 855 TPD air separation plant at Bellary, Karnataka, for supply
of gases to JSW Steel Ltd. In May 2006, they signed a contract for installation of 1250 TPD
onsite air separation plant in the premises of Bokaro Steel Plant on Steel Authority of India
Ltd for supply of gases.
During the year 2006-07, the company supplied and installed 400 cum/hr nitrogen generation
plant at Gujarat Fluorochemicals Ltd, Dahej, Gujarat and 855 TPD air separation plant at
Essar Steel Ltd, Hazira, Gujarat on lease basis.
During the year 2007-08, the company supplied and installed 2000 cum/hr air separation
plant at ITC, Bhadrachalam. Also, they installed an arrangement for supplying 800 cum/hr
nitrogen to Aurobindo Pharma Ltd, at Hyderabad. During the year 2008-09, the company
installed a 1250 TPD onsite air separation plant in the premises of Bokaro Steel Plant, Steel
Authority of India Ltd at Bokaro.
Some of the projects under implementations are expansion of capacity by 3000 cum/hour at
Jejuri, expansion of capacity by 1000 cum/hr at Surajpur, expansion of capacity by 6500
cum/hr at Wardha and installation of 108 TPD onsite Air Separation Plant in the premises of
Salem Steel Plant, Steel Authority of India Ltd at Salem, Tamilnadu.

one of the largest manufacturers of industrial gases in India with 36 plants spread throughout
the country.
To reinforce its leadership and to cater to the growing demand of industrial gas from the
manufacturing sector, INOX Air Products announced plans to invest more than Rs. 600 Cr.
across Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Puducherry, and Rajasthan.
INOX Air Products also inked a long term supply contract of industrial gases with Saint
Gobain Glass India (SGGI), for their upcoming float glass plant in Rajasthan, which is slated
to be one of the largest in the world.
INOX Air Products announced plans for a massive expansion in its capacities by adding four
air separation units (ASU) and liquefiers for the merchant market across India with an
investment of more than Rs 600 Cr. All the four new plants are scheduled to come on stream
during 2012 and will enhance INOX Air Products merchant capacity by about 60%.
We are market leaders in merchant industrial gases and this committed investment aligns our
supply chain with the consistently growing demand for industrial gases which is being fuelled
by the robust expansion in Indias manufacturing sector said Siddharth Jain, Director, INOX
Air Products. The investments will further strengthen INOX Air Products substantial
presence throughout India, augment our supply capabilities, enhance our customer focus and
reinforce our leadership position.
These four ASU and liquefier merchant plants that INOX Air products will build to produce
liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen and liquid argon, are strategically located in proximity of high
demand growth areas and spread across four states viz. Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat,
Puducherry, and Rajasthan.
INOX Air Products also marked its entry into the glass industry by inking a contract for long
term supply of nitrogen and hydrogen gases with Saint Gobain Glass India (SGGI) for their
upcoming float glass plant in Rajasthan, which is slated to be one of the largest in the world.
A customer-focused approach was essential in gaining our business. Reliable supply is very
important to our project and we believe INOX Air Products industrial gas expertise will
deliver on our industrial gas needs, said Mr S.N. Eisenhower, Director - Operations at Saint
Gobain Glass India.
Over and above these four new facilities, INOX Air Products market presence in India
continues to grow. Earlier this year, the JV announced a long-term contract with POSCO
Maharashtra Steel Private Limited (PMSPL) to supply on-site nitrogen and hydrogen gases to
its new facility in Vile Bhagad, Maharashtra, in western India. PMSPL is a subsidiary of
POSCO, the worlds fourth largest steel producer by output. The plants are expected to come
on stream in late 2011.

Production process of INOX Air Products
MANUFACTURING PLANTS
INOX India has comprehensive manufacturing facilities, catering to the customers' diverse
cryogenic needs. Its manufacturing plants in Kalol (near Vadodara) and Kandla (near
Gandhidham) have some of the best technologies and equipment in India and provide for a
very challenging and satisfying work environment. These manufacturing plants keep abreast
with the latest technology to meet the growing market expectations.
INOX India has a strong Product Development set-up with world class facilities and stringent
quality control measures at various stages of production to ensure world class quality.
KALOL PLANT
INOX India established this state-of-the-art production facility in 1992 at Kalol, near
Vadodara, in Gujarat. This is one of the most integrated manufacturing facilities plant in the
Indian Cryogenic Industry. This innovatively laid out plant manufactures a wide range
standard and custom designed cryogenic tanks and other products meeting global quality &
international testing standards.
Spread over 30,000 m2, and 19,000 m2 workshop area, this plant is manned by more than
280 engineers, technicians and support staff.
Kalol works is accredited with ASME U stamp and has all approvals & certification
required for cryogenic product manufacturing.
Kalol plant manufactures perlite & super-insulated cryogenic tanks & containers, the latest
generation standard customer station tanks, large bulk storage tanks, LN2 Dewars , all types
of transport tanks, micro bulk storage units, Vaporisers, pressure regulating & control skids,
CO2 based dry cleaning machines, deposable cylinders, and customized equipment.
Self reliant with dish head spinning machine shop provides high quality dished ends for
inner & outer vessels. Cryogenic tank repair & rehab facility offers long term support to our
valued customers.
KANDLA PLANT
Operational since 2007 with a strategic advantage of location; near to major sea-ports, INOX
Indias new Kandla plant is a major boost to our production capacity, allowing us to enter
newer markets. Laid out with an eye for the future, the plant is an imposing addition to the

industrial skyline of Kandla.

Spread over 39,000 m2 total area, it houses best in class industrial architecture combined with
the latest manufacturing technologies that is also ecologically sensitive as reflected in the
selection of machinery and processes. This plant is located in a Special Economic Zone
(SEZ) at Kutch, Gujarat, and manned by more than 50 engineers and support staff.
Kandla work is accredited with ASME U stamp and all approvals & certification required
for cryogenic product manufacturing.
The plant manufactures standard customer station tanks, large bulk storage tanks, flat bottom
tanks, water bath Vaporisers, pressure regulating & control skids and specially engineered
equipment.

ENGINEERING WORK OF INOX

As an ISO 9001 company, INOX India follows a methodical approach towards
engineering. It has amassed vast experience in providing engineering support over a wide
range of disciplines. The company extends its engineering expertise to support the
development, implementation, and application of our products and technologies.
The company also provides design-engineering support to customers to aid in their ability to
utilize and implement our products. The scope of INOX Indias engineering design support
tasks can range from the review of a customers designs to the complete design, fabrication,
installation, transportation and operation of equipment.
In addition to CAD Station, specialized computerized analyses are carried out on different
aspects of the design such as Pressure Vessel analysis, thermal analysis, piping design,
support analysis etc.

Earlier this year, the Inox Air announced a long-term contract with POSCO Maharashtra
Steel Private Limited (PMSPL) to supply on-site nitrogen and hydrogen gases to its new
facility in Vile Bhagad, Maharashtra, in western India. PMSPL is a subsidiary of POSCO, the
worlds fourth largest steel producer by output. The plants are expected to come on stream in
late 2011.The demand for world-class industrial and medical gases solutions from the
manufacturing and healthcare sectors has grown over the years Pankaj Chaturvedi, head

allow us to serve both new customers and current customers expanding their activities in
these regions", he added.

making operations. The new ASU will supply SAIL with 1250 tonnes of oxygen per day,
1500 tonnes of LP nitrogen per day, 1500 tonnes of MP/HP nitrogen per day and 48 tonnes of
Argon per day, for the next fifteen years. This ASU enables Bokaro Steel Plant to increase its
output, improve the quality of its product and reduce raw material input cost, as the growth of
the Indian Economy has led to a record expansion of Indias Iron & Steel Sector.
The Air Separation Plant was completed in a span of 24 months and is the largest ASU in the
SAIL stable. The ASU is also unique in the sense that it has the worlds biggest storage
facility of 5000 Tons of Oxygen, 3000 tons of Nitrogen and 500 tons of Argon. The 10 km
pipeline for gas distribution is the longest ever in India.
Mr P.K. Jain, Chairman & Managing Director of INOXAP, stated The SAIL Bokaro ASU
facility is yet another landmark in INOXAPs history of commitment to Indias Iron & steel

Air Products announced that Inox Air Products Ltd., its joint venture (JV) in India, will
construct three air separation units (ASU) and liquefiers for the merchant market and also
will build a fourth plant for long-term industrial gas supply to Saint Gobain Glass India. The
four facilities are scheduled to come on stream during 2012. INOX Air Products will build

the ASU and liquefier merchant plants to produce liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, and liquid
argon in the states of Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Puducherry. All three locations have a
strong manufacturing base, and these cost-effective facilities are strategically located close to
the principal markets that they serve. INOX Air Products will also build an ASU and liquefier
for the merchant market and signed a long-term supply contract for nitrogen and hydrogen
with Saint Gobain Glass India (SGGI). The production plants, to be located at SGGI's facility
in the state of Rajasthan, will supply nitrogen from the ASU by pipeline and hydrogen from a
steam methane reformer (SMR) plant designed to meet the specific requirements of the
customer. The SMR is a product offering from Air Products' PRISM(R) gas generation
portfolio.

Inox Air Products Ltd. has signed a long-term contract with POSCO Maharashtra Steel
Private Limited (PMSPL) to supply on-site nitrogen and hydrogen gases to its new facility
located in Vile Bhagad, Maharashtra, Western India. INOX Air Products will build and
operate a high purity nitrogen plant and a steam methane reformer (SMR) hydrogen plant
designed to meet the specific requirements of PMSPL's facility in Maharashtra. Both the
nitrogen plant and the SMR are product offerings from Air Products' PRISM(R) gas
generation portfolio. The plants are expected to come onstream in late 2011.

INOX Air Products Ltd., signs a long-term supply contract with POSCO Maharashtra Steel

INOX Air Products operates an Indian joint venture with Air Products and will be providing
on-site hydrogen and nitrogen to the recently opened facility in Vile Bhagad, Maharashtra,
which is located in Western India. PMSPL is a subsidiary of the worlds fourth largest steel
producer, POSCO.

INOX Air Products has agreed to construct and run a high purity nitrogen plant, and also

Announces India Joint Venture For Sun Source Gases, Materials

INOX Air Products Ltd., has recently signed two new contracts with leading Indian
photovoltaic (PV) manufacturers for the companys Sun Source Solutions gases and materials
to support the PV market in India.
INOX Air Products has signed a gas supply contract to provide bulk and specialty gases to
HHV Solar Technologies Pvt. Ltd (HHV Solar) at its new thin-film PV fab in Bangalore. The
contract calls for the supply of hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen and argon, as well as specialty
gases, including silane, methane and do pant mixtures. In addition, INOX Air Products will
provide the total gas management at HHV Solars research, development and demonstration
fab.
INOX Air Products will also supply Jupiter Solar Power Ltd, a subsidiary of Jupiter
International, with specialty gases to its new PV facility at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh, India.
Jupiter Solar Power Ltd is setting up PV solar cell manufacturing facilities in Himachal
Pradesh and West Bengal at an aggregate investment of Rs 1,500 crore (~US$300 million).
INOX Air Products Inaugurates New Air Separation Unit for SAIL Bokaro
in India
The Steel Authority of India Limiteds (SAIL) Bokaro facility was the site of an inauguration
ceremony last week to celebrate INOX Air Products Ltd.s (INOXAP) recently completed air
separation unit (ASU). INOX Air Products, Air Products (NYSE: APD) joint venture
company in India, commercialized the ASU supporting the steelmaker in late 2008 for the
SAIL plant in the state of Jharkhand. SAIL is the largest integrated iron and steel-making
company in India and Bokaro is one of its largest integrated production plants
.
The ASU facility, operating under a long-term contract, is supplying SAIL with over 1,250
tons per day of oxygen and over 1,500 tons per day of nitrogen, as well as providing argon
for the Bokaro sites steelmaking operation. The industrial gases are being used by SAIL for

enhancing its steel producing capacity at Bokaro, as the growth of the Indian economy has
led to a record expansion of Indias steel sector.
After inaugurating the ASU, SAIL's Bokaro Steel Plant managing director, Mr. VK
Srivastava, congratulated the INOXAP team for successful completion of the project and
expressed confidence that the new ASU would play a key role in helping BSL (this acronym
not defined previously but is abbrev. for Bokaro Steel Ltd) enhance its productivity and
efficiency.
The SAIL Bokaro ASU facility continues INOXAPs growth in supporting Indias major
steel producers, and continues our leading presence in providing industrial gases to our India
customers, said Pavan Jain, managing director of INOXAP.
This is INOXAPs first major facility in the eastern India region. I congratulate the entire
team on this accomplishment, said Robert Dixon, vice president of Global Merchant Gases
for Air Products. We look forward to our long-term relationship with SAIL and supplying
them products from this facility as well as others in the future.

provided to the India steel sector in the last four years. The India steelmaking community has
grown from a production level of approximately 35 million tons per year to approximately 55
million tons per year over this period and continues to expand operations on a global basis.

INOX Air Products to supply oxygen and nitrogen to Posco in India

Air Products announces that INOX Air Products Ltd., its joint venture in India, has signed a
long-term contract with its subsidiary POSCO Maharashtra Steel Private Limited to supply
on-site nitrogen and hydrogen gases to its new facility located in Maharashtra, Western India.
The site will be POSCO's second steel galvanizing project outside of Korea and the first
investment for production in India.
INOX Air Products will build and operate a high purity nitrogen plant and a steam methane
reformer (SMR) hydrogen plant designed to meet the specific requirements of PMSPL's
facility in Maharashtra. Both the nitrogen plant and the SMR are product offerings from Air
Products' PRISM gas generation portfolio. The plants are expected to come onstream in late

POSCO is already an Air Products customer at its home base in Korea. The India plant, once
completed, will be POSCO's second facility to produce both hot-dip galvanized and
galvanealed sheets outside of Korea. Galvanized steel is used in many outdoor, marine and
industrial applications due to its resistance to corrosion. The automobile industry is the
primary target market for PMSPL in India.

FINDINGS
Findings on production:
1. Gas industries producing liquid/gas like argon nitrogen and oxygen 37.5 tpd
(turn per day)
2. Raw material used is air which is purified, moisture, co-dust and moisture.
3. Air separation technology is used by the company with caustic like scrubble.

4. They are keeping stock of material like oil and caustic soda lime for minimum
one month sparse one set.
5. Twenty four staff members are there in production department.
6. Ten staff members are there in production department.
7. There are three administrators, one instrumental, one electrical and fifteen
labours.
8. Yes training is provided to them such as fire fighting, first aid and safety
competition. They are also provided with personal production equipment.
9. Training is given by qualified trainers of HOD like safety, healthcare, hygiene,
protection of work place on the rood, case accident also display time to time.
10. There is no chance of uncertainty even though adequate spare are kept in store
to reduce down time. People are professionally trained to working department
when emergency occurs.
11. Quality manual is with the world class standards. Checking are made
G.C(Guest Chromatograph) oxygen analyser and other precious instruments
to check impurities in PPM labour. So there is no chance of dead quality we
have on line analyser for each and every product.
12. Quality management techniques are used as per standard of Air product as
well as standard development in house.
Suggestions
My suggestion regarding the company is as follows:
1. The company should try improving the production by using various
technologies which are available easily and can be adopted as fast as possible.
2. The company should try to give better quality products as far as possible. It
should continuously work for improving the quality of the product.
3. The marketing should be on large scale.

4. Human resource should be properly maintained by the company. Various

facilities should be provided to them such as safe drinking water, good
environment, medical facilities, etc.
5. International marketing should be done so as to increase profit.
6. Profit margin should be fixed by the company in national market.
