In this talk, Joanne Lloyd will tell you about her research into people's motivations for
gambling, and challenge the notion that gambling is 'the son of avarice and the father
of despair'. She will explain why many of us love to gamble, besides simply out of
greed, and discuss why, for some, 'a dollar won is twice as sweet as a dollar earned'.
She will talk about the despair that can come from gambling, but also about the
enjoyment, and highlight some of the things that can tip the balance towards one
extreme or the other.
