Olympics The King of All Sports Events

The Olympics season is over. And India won two medals in

Olympics 2016. A silver medal through P.V.Sindhu in badminton
and a bronze medal in wrestling by Sakshi Malik, filled the
hearts of Indians with great pride. Here is a special story on
Olympics for you.
The Olympics that happen now are called modern Olympics.
These Olympic Games take their inspiration from Ancient
Olympics dated back in 8th and 9th century B.C. They were held
in Olympia, Greece. Baron Pierre de Coubertinin was the
founder of modern Olympics and the first modern Olympics
were held in 1896 at Athens, Greece. Since then Olympics were
conducted once in every four years. However, these Games
were cancelled in the years 1916, 1940 and 1944 due to World
wars. Olympics are international sports and games events;
where over 200 countries from across the globe take part. The
recent Olympics, Games of the XXXI Olympiad, in 2016, were
held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The next Olympics will be held at
Tokyo, Japan in the year 2020.
Olympics are also held as Summer Olympics and Winter
Olympics. Winter Olympics are held two years after every
Summer Olympics. Host nation is the country at which Olympic
Games are conducted and it is usually selected seven to eight
years in advance. Olympic symbol or Olympic rings have five
rings (blue, yellow, black, green and red on white background);
intertwined with each other and they represent the five
inhabited continents namely Asia, America, Africa, Europe and

Oceania. Citius, Altius, Fortius is the motto of Olympics which

means Faster, Higher and Stronger.
Olympic mascot is a unique to every Olympics and it denotes
the culture and heritage of the host country. Several months
before each Olympics, the Olympic torch will be lit in Olympia
and it goes on a relay to the host city. This lighting of torch
signifies the ancient Greek rituals.
