The genesis of the Mount Carmel College Library was in 1953 along with the Mount Carmel
College of Teacher Education. Mount Carmel College Library had a small beginning and over
these 60 years its growth has been phenomenal. It has grown and transformed from Book only
library to modern digital library".
Mount Carmel College of Teacher Education has a fully fledged library and Information
Center with all the modern facilities. The Library caters to the needs of 180 regular users in the
college which include 25 faculty, 35 M.Ed students and 120 B.Ed students. It also provides
information service to the P.G students, Research scholars and teachers from the neighbouring
academic institutions and colleges. As part of the automation process the library has purchased
Software for University Libraries (SOUL)developed by INFLIBNET, Ahamadabad. Library has
fully automated its housekeeping activities and information services in the year 2005.
Another milestone in the development of the library was the establishment of Carmel Public
Library,a library for the disadvantaged women of the locality in August 2013.
