Rodriguez, Johan M.
Heneral Luna was a very admirable and engaging character. Para kayong mga
birhen na naniniwala sa pag-ibig ng isang puta he so remarkably says to everyone
around him during the discourse in the middle of the film. His grit, ruggedness and
all around realness was his charm and here I am still cheering him on a year after
the movie premiered and 117 years after he died.
The movie was clever and not once did I feel like it was dragging. Despite the
serious theme of the movie, it was actually wittily humorous and I felt like it brought
something distinctly Filipino to the film; the knack of finding humor in any type of
situation.
More than any of that though, my favorite thing about the film is that it gave us a
better understanding of ourselves, our fellow countrymen, and our nation. Another
one of the most unforgettable lines from the film goes like this; Mas madali pang
pagkasunduin ang langit at lupa kaysa dalawang Pilipino tungkol sa kahit anong
bagay. This was another something that made the film so characteristically Filipino
as well.
All in all, the film was really inspiring and easy to relate to. It gave us a hero who
had truly died for us and who is now more to me than a name in my grade 2 Araling
Panlipunan book. It was a film that reminded us that the Philippines isnt just worth
dying for, its worth living for.
