Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of School Councils

Representing School Councils, Parent Advisory Committees, Home and School & ParentTeacher Associations
26 September 2016
Dear Peter,
In light of your recent actions, comments, and failure to notify the remaining executive of your
media involvement, we feel it necessary to ask for your immediate resignation as President of
the Newfoundland and Labrador School Council Federation. In keeping with our constitution,
Bi-law 6: an officer or director may be removed from office by a resolution passed by an
absolute majority at a Biennial or General meeting, provided that notice of the resolution is sent
to that officer or director at least two weeks prior to the meeting. Executive members will be
meeting 9 October 2016 to accept your resignation.
Repeatedly, over the course of this past year, especially the last eight months, executive
members have reminded you both verbally and in writing to notify us if you were speaking to
the public. By all definitions, a council is a group of people working together toward a common,
positive goal. It seems this has been forgotten by you. The point of view you are presenting to
the public is certainly not representative of all council members, schools, teachers,
administration, and student across this province and certainly not the executives; however, the
public perceives it as such. Therefore, we have no choice but to ask you to vacate the seat of
President as soon as possible. The majority of the executive agrees this is the only possible
course of action.
We certainly appreciate all the effort and time you have contributed to the federation.
Should you wish to contact us, all correspondence will be made through the executive
members remaining and not the executive director.
Wishing you the best for the future.
Sincerely,
Paulette Fifield
VP NLFSC
