CALL FOR PRESENTATION ABSTRACTS


2016 Helical Piles & Tiebacks Seminar on
Use of Helical Piles and Tiebacks in Seismic & Lateral Load Conditions
DFIs Helical Piles & Tiebacks Committee is planning a seminar on the proper design,
application and installation of helical piles and tiebacks in seismic and lateral load conditions.
Topics specific to seismic and lateral loading, materials, construction, and testing procedures
will be presented. Local presentations are welcomed from engineers, contractors, building
officials and public agencies. Presentation proposals are solicited on the following topics
relating to helical piles and tiebacks:

Building codes related to the design of helical pile elements


Case studies on the design and use of helical piles systems and helical tiebacks on
new and retrofitted projects
Helical pile and helical tieback performance studies
Advancements and innovations in design, construction, and equipment for helical piles
and tiebacks
Quality control and inspection
Practice-oriented research

Speakers interested in presenting at the seminar are encouraged to submit an abstract (up to
300 words long) using the attached Abstract Submission Form, describing the presentation
topic. The due date for abstracts is Friday, March 25, 2016. Notification of acceptance or
declination will be returned to all authors no later than Friday, April 4, 2016. Guidelines
for presentation development will be provided to accepted speakers at that time. Authors will
be required to commit to presenting their topic at the seminar by Friday, April 15, 2016 and
to submitting a PowerPoint presentation for the seminar proceedings website by Friday, June
24, 2016. Full papers are not required for this seminar; however, accepted authors are invited
to develop their presentations into technical papers for consideration by the editors of the DFI
Journal for a future volume.
