Sam Houston High School was previously labeled as Improvement Required but has since improved and is no longer under that label. The school's goal is to raise its Algebra 1 passing rate from 58% to at least 60% given that half of the Algebra 1 teachers are new or have only been teaching for two years. To achieve this goal, the school is focusing on collecting and using student data to drive lessons, designing effective lesson plans and assessments, checking for student understanding and responding to misunderstandings, differentiating instruction to meet student needs, and maximizing instructional time.
