Interview skills

Dress
Guys:
-button up shirt (ironed) and tie
-dress pants
-dress shoes
-Sports jacket (optional for class interviews)
-hair and nails are trimmed and clean
-No cologne (for class interviews, in real life use just a little- dont over do it)

Girls:
-Skirt to knees or longer with dressy shirt that does not show cleavage or
dress that goes to knees or below and no cleavage or dress pants with
dressy shirt (dress conservatively and comfortably)
-dress shoes (no high heels more than 1 in)
-simple or no jewelry
-No make-up (for class interviews, in real life your make up should be simpledont over do it)
-hair and nails should look clean and tidy

Prepare

Failure to Plan = Planning to

-Practice answering interview questions in a mirror to watch your body


language and expressions
-Pick out your clothes the night before
-Have resumes printed and ready in a nice folder
-Bring pen and paper to write down notes or important information

The Interview
-Arrive at least 10 minutes early
-Check in with secretary politely (Remember someone is always watching!)

Introduction
-Stand to greet your interviewer(s)
-Shake their hand firmly
-Smile
-Give direct eye contact

During
-Be specific with your answers, give examples
-Make sure you answer the whole question, you can ask them to repeat it if
you need
-Show enthusiasm
-Be positive and polite

After
-Thank the interviewer(s)
-Shake hands again
-Ask for a business card so you can send a thank you
-Send a thank you note to your interviewer
