SCIENCE CLUB MEMBERSHIP

Well hello there!! For those of you that do not know me yet, my name is Ms. Watts. I
am the Science Club Sponsor for the 2016-2017 school year. What is Science Club
and what will we do you ask? I am hoping to take Science Club and make it a
extended learning time, a time for some hands on learning with fun experiments,
activities and maybe some science field career observations that are individualized
to its members. I want to ignite a passion for science in you. Although there is hard
work that goes into science there also is some really amazing and fun parts to
science. The best part is that it is all around us!!!! I hope to see you join!!
If you would like to join please fill out the science club application and return it in
its entirety to Ms. Watts by Oct. 3rd. NO applications will be taken after the
deadline!!

Requirements
1. Dues for Science Club are $20.00, this includes a club t-shirt.
2. Students must maintain a grade of C or better with good attendance to
participate in any after school or end of the year activities.
3. Students who have not successfully completed 3 credits of science PRIOR to the
2016-17 year must complete the following requirements
a. Provide 2 letters of recommendation from a HS staff member not related to
you (these can be email from the staff member to me at
amandawatts@alton.k12.mo.us ),
b. Complete one of the of the following assignments over one of the following
topics
** I know you are thinking, Great an assignment. I am out!! but I promise your
efforts will be rewarded with our fun activities/trip!!

All membership applications must be turned in by Oct. 3rd, with $20.00 club dues,
attached letters of recommendation and a completed assignment.

Topics to choose from include:

A System of the human body

Meteorology

An Element

Cellular Reproduction (Mitosis/Meiosis) Space

Stem Cells

Engineering in Science

Physical Science

Assignment (choose 1 of the 3)

3.Report

2.A Recorded Parody of a Song

Google Slide Presentation- You can share this with me at

**** (If you are unsure how to create a google slide presentation please see
Ms. Watts)

Must include 14 slides giving information about the chosen topic.

There must be at least 4 pictures presented within those information slides

1 slide- short video relating to the topic (The video must be at least 1 min in
length but less than 5 mins)

1 slide citing sources used to obtain information (at least 2 sources are
required)

THIS MAKES FOR A TOTAL OF 16 SLIDES

This needs to be your own work

A Recorded Parody of a Song- You can share this with me at

**** Be sure that this is your original parody NO PLAGIARIZING

Include typed Lyrics for the original song

A typed version of lyrics for your parody of the song

A video of the song being sang (You can have someone else that I can identify
sing your parody of the song, you can have friends help you in your video or
include a recording of you singing it with a different background(if you are
shy) ** I must be able to tell that it is you though

Report- You can share this with me at amandawatts@alton.k12.mo.us and include

a copy with your application. I will not accept any report that does not follow these
rules.

Two page report must be 12 pt font, with normal 1 inch margins.

You must have 2 sources which can be from any science book, magazine,
encyclopedia or the internet.

Reports that are cut and pasted from the internet or are plagiarized will not
be accepted. The report must be written by you.

Need to include a work cited page listing your 2 sources, (*please make
certain that your sources are reliable and if it is an online source that you
include the correct url so that I can access them)
