FILM SYNOPSIS
Jakes wife and daughter were the apple of his
eye. After he overcame alcoholism, he lived for
his family and not much else. This all changed
when his family was killed in a drunk driving
accident. Suddenly his world was turned upside
down. Expecting justice, hes outraged when
a liberal judge lets the offender off the hook
with two charges of vehicular manslaughter.
After the justice system fails him, Jake spirals
into a deep depression. Jake spends his nights
drinking, looking to escape the pain. One
night he stumbles into a bar and has a chance
meeting with a Neo-Nazi bartender who offers
Jake a solution that will change his life forever.

THE AUDIENCE
Unfortunately we live in a time of Hate and Extremism.
Hate Crimes are a sad reality that effects millions of people
around the world, and the frequency of these attacks is
increasing at a rapid pace. In 2014, the U. S. Departmet
of Justice estimated that there were 784 active hate groups
in the United States. In fact, California has the highest
number of hate crimes in the nation. This epidemic of hate
crime is the main reason why I wanted to make this film.
One of the main objectives of REDRESS is to help create
awareness of this problem in our local community, but also
all over the country. To do so, we are partnering with some of
the biggest hate crime prevention organizations, non-profit
organizations, as well as schools and arts associations in the
Bay Area. This will allow the film to reach people who are not
necessarily short film consumers. At the same time, the movie
will be distributed online and to different film festivals, which
will allow the message of REDRESS to spread worldwide.
Information taken from FBI National Hate Crime Statistics
(2015), published by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Some recent examples of short films that turned into feature films are:
Whiplash (2013), by Damien Chazelle. The director
of the Academy Award wining feature film of the
same name was having a hard time getting funds
for his movie so he made his script into a short film
that he used in to get the money he needed. The
overwhelming success of the short film helped
Chazelle get the money that he needed and the
short film and the feature version of Whiplash
finally released into 2014.
