REACTIVITY DATA
Chemical Stability: Stable; hygroscopic.
Incompatibility with other substances: May react violently or explosively with strong oxidizing agents.
Hydrolyses in the presence of acids or acid environment.
Reacts violently with Na2O2. Excessive heat will cause decomposition, releasing formaldehye and ammonia, both of
which are toxic and irritating.
Reactivity: Avoid heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flame,
all other sources of ignition, incompatible materials, generation of dust.

HEXAMINE
CODE: 3940-5
Carcinogenicity: No evidence of caracinogenicity in humans or animals, but formaldehyde, a decomposition
product, is a known carcinogen.
Teratogenicity: No information available
Reproductive Effects: No information available
Mutagenicity: Has been to shown to alter genetic material
in drosophila.
Synergistic Products: None known
PREVENTIVE MEASURES
Engineering Controls: Local exhaust ventilation required.
Use grounded, non-sparking ventilation system and electrical equipment that does not provide a source of ignition.
Respiratory Protection: Dust mask. Use only in a fume
hood. NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator for concentrations
above TLV. For higher or unknown concentrations, as in fire
or spill conditions, full face-piece, positive-pressure
self-contained breathing apparatus.
Eye Protection: Chemical safety goggles.
Skin Protection: Rubber gloves. Other protective clothing,
apron, sleeves, boots sufficient to prevent contact.
Other Personal Protective Equipment: Safety shower
and eye-wash fountain in work area.
Leak and Spill Procedure: Restrict access to area of spill.
Eliminate all sources of ignition and combustible materials.
Cleanup personnel must be thoroughly trained in the hazards of this chemical and its safe use, and must wear
protective equipment and clothing sufficient to prevent inhalation of dust or fumes, and contact with skin and eyes.
Wet if necessary to avoid generating dust. Prevent from entering sewers and waterways. Contain spill with inert
material (earth, sand, inert absorbent). Use non-sparking
tools to collect material, in suitable, labelled, covered containers for disposal. Contaminated absorbent may pose the
same hazards as the chemical; treat with caution. Flush
area of spill with large amounts of running water.
Waste Disposal: Follow all federal, provincial and local
regulations for disposal.
Handling Procedures and Equipment: FLAMMABLE,
TOXIC SOLID. Eliminate all sources of ignition and have all
engineering controls operating before handling. Personnel
working with this chemical must be thoroughly trained regarding its hazards, and its safe use, and must wear
appropriate protective equipment and clothing. Ground and
bond all equipment to prevent static charge accumulation.
Use non-sparking tools. Post No Smoking signs. Use
smallest amount possible for the purpose in an area with appropriate ventilation. Avoid all contact with eyes, skin or
clothing. Avoid generating dust; use good-housekeeping
procedures to prevent accumulation of dust. Keep containers closed when not in use. Wash thoroughly after working
with this product.
Storage Requirements: Store in a cool, well-ventilated
area out of sun and away from all ignition sources. Keep
storage area free of combustible materials and incompatible
materials such as strong oxidizers. Storage facilities should
be made of fire-resistant materials, and have raised sills and
be trenched to safe location. Keep containers tightly closed.
Protect from damage and inspect frequently for signs of
damage or leaking.
