SPRIT DAY! This Friday is Spirit Day, the students may wear
their spirit shirts and dress code bottoms. If your child does not
have a pre-paid ice-cream card from VAPO, you may send them
with $0.50 so they may enjoy an ice-cream after lunch.
Language Arts
Phonograms: This week there will be a 30 phonogram. However, please
continue to practice all 70, especially the last 25. The last 25 are some of the
most difficult for the students to remember.
Writing: We will continue to create oral/written declarative, interrogative and
exclamatory sentences using this weeks spelling words. We will also learn about
an imperative sentence (a command). Ex: Sit down here. Put that away. *Always
have student read you the sentences that come home in their folders. Please
keep in mind that some of these sentences may still have errors. Correcting the
errors is a good one on one practice at home.
Reading: We spend two days on each story.
Day 1: We read the story chorally, check for comprehension, sequence the
events, and summarize it. It is reading homework. Return it for use in
class tomorrow. Please sign the green sheet daily. This ensures us that
your child has read it to you.
Day 2: We re-read the story and give them a comprehension test. THEY GET
TO USE THEIR STORY. Please keep these stories, when we have finished
both sides, so you can go over and wrong answers that may be on your
childs test.
Please note: This Wednesday and Thursday we will have sequencing stories
instead of the normal story. Please follow the directions at the top of the
page to help your student practice sequencing a short story.
