Miss Rocheforts Fifth Grade Class

Whats New in Room 22?

This past week, we wrapped up the review module in
math and we started the fifth grade first module. In this
part of the module we are working with multiplicative
patterns on the place value chart. We will be focusing
on the common core standards 5.NBT.1, 5.NBT.2, and
5.MD.1. Students are working on conceptually
understanding how to multiply and divide numbers by
powers of 10 such as ten, one hundred, and one
thousand.
In reading workshop, we have been continuously
working to think about our reading and increase our
reading stamina. Students are enjoying our read aloud
Wonder, which leads to great discussions not only about
thinking about the text, but how to be a kind classmate.

When given the choice between being

right or being kind, choose kind.

Continued
In writing workshop, we are working on our personal
narratives. This week we really focused in on deciding
on what our stores were really about, the heart of the
story. We have also worked on finding places were we
could slow down and elaborate the important parts.
Students have volunteered to read their personal
narratives, and ask for feedback from their classmates
on where they could elaborate. Students did a
wonderful job giving feedback that was helpful to
writers, and the writers did a fabulous job accepting the
feedback.
In social studies, we have been working on identifying
different landforms. Once we have mastered the thirty
landforms we have been introduced to, we will use our
knowledge to begin in class project that will combine
our knowledge of landforms and maps.

Students have been working to

choose moments in their lives that
are important to them. Whether
it was the first time they did
something, the last time they did
something, or a time when they
realized something.
