Dear Parents/Guardians,
Students of the National Honor Society have begun to prepare for a long-term project in which
they will lead groups of MES Cairo teachers on tours of Coptic Cairo (Mar Gergis) as a
fundraiser for their Workers Appreciation Lunch. We will have a day of preparation on
Saturday, 2 April 2016 and then will conduct our tours for teachers on Saturday, 9 April 2016.
We will begin our work on Saturday, 2 April 2016 at Mar Gergis with a tour of historic sites and
the Coptic Museum. Students will then work in small groups at different sites to learn about
the history, art, and architecture of the place. They will practice tour presentations with the
NHS advisors. The entire event will be held within the Mar Gergis Coptic Cairo grounds.
The days activities will begin at 11.00am. Buses will collect students from meeting points
around the city. We will conclude at 3.00pm, when buses will return students to meeting
points. The schedule below indicates times:

Students should dress appropriately for the occasion. Light layered clothing will suit the
temperatures, which will be warm in the sun but cooler indoors. Dress code is smart casual,
as is appropriate for a place that carries religious significance for many residents and visitors.
Behaviour should be appropriate for the setting, as well. Students must conduct their work
quietly, with due respect for worshippers and visitors.
In order to participate, students must submit the attached permission form with the signature
of a parent and confirmation of transportation needs. These must be returned by Wednesday,
30 April to Ms May Accad in SF7 at the latest in order to finalise transportation arrangements.
Students who fail to submit the form on time may not participate in this event.
Thank you for your support of our students work on this programme. We look forward to
seeing you later this spring at the annual NHS/NJHS Induction Ceremony.
