During Reading Strategies

Strategy 1: Visualization: Generating Mental Images

For many readers visualization is an automatic process; reading is like a movie running through their minds.

Definition: involves creating mental pictures on purpose (intentionally) that the reader associates with the
words on the page.
Example:
Read the description and draw an image or pictures that come to mind while reading:
On a starry winter night in Chile,
Where the ocean kissed the southern shore,
There a dream I never thought would come to pass,
Came and went like time spent through an hourglass.

Try It!
Read the descriptions below and draw images or pictures that come to mind while reading:

1. He fumed and charged like an angry bull.

2. He fell down like an old tree falling down in a storm.
