ABSTRACT Sathya Sai Baba is the avatar of present age incamated in human form, as promised by Lord Krishna over 5000 years ago. There is a limitless ocean of Sai fiterature in the world. Sathya Sai literature is being published from last fifly years in different languages in the form of books, documents, periodicals, audiovisual products, etc. So, there is a need of organization system of SSL in libraries & information centers. Regarding the organization of SSL in a systematic way, the need to create a library classification scheme is strongly felt. The investigator recommends “A model of classification scheme for SSL based on DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme)" to organize the Sai literature technically and it has been divided in three parts - descriptive part, main Schedule and relative index. To specify the country and language, the area table and language table of DDC should be used. To identify the information about SSL in Kathmandu and Lalitapur district, a descriptive study was conducted in 20 libraries, 9 Sathya Sai Libraries and 11 non Sathya Sai Libraries. Semi-structured self administered questionnaire was used as the too! for data collection, The questionnaire was divided in two parts, Ist part questionnaire was used for Sathya Sai libraries and 2nd part questionnaire was used for non Sathya Sai libraries. Data entering, processing and analysis was done calculating mean, median etc using computer software, dummy tables etc. The findings of the study revealed thay most Sathya Sai library has a majority of SSL ranging to an average number of 302 books. In Sathya Sai libraries, mostly SSL are organized according to accession number (49%) & only 22% are using software. Regarding the journal collection (SSL) out of 9 libraries, 5 libraries have journals & the average number of journals in each library being 2.4. Very few non Sai libraries have SSL. averaging to a total number of 8 books in 3 out of 11 non Sai libraries, Non Sai libraties are using computer software , 33% libraries are using the Win Isis software 11% are using CDS/ISIS dos version and 11% are using their ‘own software. Regarding the journal collection (SSL) out of 3 libraries, only 2. libraries has journals & the average number of journals in each library being 2.5 ‘The findings of the study revealed on the new classification scheme, all Sathya Sai Libraries (100%) recommended for a new classification scheme for organization of SSL and 56% of the non Sai libraries feel the need of a new classification scheme for SSL. Hence, the classification scheme devised by the researcher is found to be needful. DEDICATION PAGE I would like to humbly dedicate this Thesis as flower of devotion at the Holy feet of Bhagavan Shree Sathya Sai Baba. His love and blessings gave me the confidence to write this thesis. vi Foreword This thesis has been prepared as a part of the fulfillment for Masters in Library and Information Science, Tribhuvan University. The thesis topic has been selected by extensive discussion with the respected thesis guide. The topic has been selected because of the complete lack of previous researches in the matter and growing number of Sathya Sai literature (SSL) in the 21° century for dhe last fifty years. There is a worldwide network of Sathya Sai Baba centers. They are found in over 145 countries worldwide. The Sai literature are being published every year from various authors, publishers, organizations etc. in 14 Indian and 26 Foreign language. So there is need lo organize the SSL in Libraries and Information Centre. Regarding the organization of SSL in a systematic way, the need to create a classification scheme is strongly felt. So the objective of the study is basically to find the need for a classification scheme for Sathya Sai literatures and to prepare a classification scheme if required. This thesis has been divided in I- 6 chapters. In chapter 4 “A model of Classification Scheme for SSL based on DDC “ has been developed including 3 parts: 1" part Descriptive part, 2" part Main Schedule and 3" part Relative Index. ‘The model of classification scheme prepared in this thesis has been done by a tailor made process in the library of Sathya Sai Centre, Kathmandu Chaitanya Jyoti Narayanchour, Naxal, Kathmandu, Nepal. It is worth mentioning that the thesis has helped the researcher by opening up her minds towards research field and hence this thesis has been completed with great hard work and dedication and not just as a part of completion of the MLIS course. A library Classification is a system of coding library materials (books, serials, journals, documents, audiovisual materials, or non book materials like maps, manuscripts, maps, CDs, Cassettes etc.) according to their subjects. A classification consists of tables of subject heading and classification schedules used to assign a class number to each item being classified, based on that item’s subject. There are many standard systems of library classification in use, and many have been proposed over the years. Thesc include the Library of Congress Classification (LC), Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), which are the most common systems in the English-speaking world. Other less commonly used classification systems include the Bliss bibliographic classification, the Colon Classilication and the Universal Decimal Classification. These systems are often considered to be theoretical superior, since they make use of the principle of synthesis (combining codes from different lists to represent the different attributes of a work), as compared to LC or DDC. LC and DDC the most common classification systems are essentially enumerative, though with some hierarchica) and faceted elements, especially at the broadest and most general level. The first true faceted system was the Colon classification of S.R. Ranganathan. From observation & experience, all of us know, new walks of life are discovered every generation and new demands are created in each and every field of life. New literatures are being published in various disciplines. Not all of them are possible to be included in any of the classification schemes. For this the special classification systems have been developed for particular subject arcas, and some special libraries develop their own classification system and that emphasize those areas they specialize in. An example of special classification system for art and iconography is Icon class. ‘There is a limitless ocean of Sathya Sai literatures in the world. It is being published from last fifty years in different languages: 14 Indian languages and 26 foreign languages. The Sathya Sai liteatue are being published in dhe form of Books, periodicals and Audio Visuals, video products. There are literature available written by Sathya Sai Baba Himself. Hence the problem of organizing the Sathya Sai literature is not just a national problem. Who is Sathya Sai Baba? Shree Sathya Sai Baba :Shree Sathya Sai Baba is one of the most revered spiritual teachers in the world today. He is quietly transforming the world by reestablishing the eternal values of Truth (Sathya), Right Conduct (Dharma), Peace (Shanti), Love (Prema) and Nonviolence (Ahimsa) in everyday living. He is, an exceptional spiritual leader with millions of followers throughout the world, was born on November : 23, 1926 in Puttaparthi, a small remote village in South ay 5 Central India. His mission was ?F “A to bring about the spiritual regeneration of humanity by demonstrating and teaching the highest principles of Love, Truth, Peace, Right-Conduct and Non- violence. He is also known as Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Sai Baba, Swami, Bhagavan, or simply as Baba to millions of people in the world. His followers come from all faiths and races and meet regularly for devotional singing, to study His teachings, and to engage in service activities in order to practice His message uf Love and Peace to unite all mankind. Sathyanarayan Raju was the childhood name of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba . As a child, he demonstrated exceptional qualities of wisdom, compassion and generosity, and it was known in the village that he would take part of his meals out of the house to feed the beggars in the street. At the age of seven he began to compose spiritual songs which were performed at religious festivals. A year or two later he demonstrated his powers by materializing abjects out of thin air for his playmates, usually candy. On other occasions he would pick a variety of fruits from a non-fruit producing tree. At the age of fourteen, He announced to his parents and the villagers that His name was Sathya Sai Baba and he was the reincarnation of the Indian Saint, Sai Baba of Shit He proclaimed His mission: to bring about the spiritual regeneration of humanity by demonstrating and teaching the highest principles of Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Love and Nonviolence. With that announcement, He left His childhood home and began His mission. ‘For the protection of the virtuous, for the destruction of evildoers, and for establishing righteousness on a firm footing, I incarnate from age to age. Whenever disharmony overwhelms the world, the Lord will incarnate in human form to establish the modes of earning peace, and to re-educate the human community in the paths of peace.’ Shirdi Sai Baba Rationale for study, 1. Unknown status of the classification under which Sathya Sai literature are arranged in various libraries in Nepal 2. Despite the fact that Luuks of Sathya Sai literature arc publishes every year, little is known about it by various libraries in Nepal and little consideration is given to classify the Sathya Sai literature correctly. 3. The researcher herself has the experience of working in Sathya Sai Library Kathmandu, Narayanchour where she encountered 3500 volumes of books with great difficulty in arranging them without any class number. 4, Little, almost no researches have ever been conducted to find out the classificatiun schemes under which Sathya Sai literature have been arranged. 1.2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM In Libraries and Information Centre for systematic arrangement of books, documents, audio, video and any literature un the shelves and for easy rctricval, bibliographical classification systems are used. One of the most extensively and popular internationally recognized classification scheme is Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme, which is at present in its 22™ edition. ‘There are different types of classification schemes like Universal Decimal Classification, Library of Congress, Colon Classification etc., all general bibliographical classification schemes in use at present do not adequately cover Sathya Sai Literature is extensively being published, over the last fifty years, This inadequacy is felt at the Sathya Sai Libraries and other libraries to organize the collection of Sathya Sai Literature technically. 1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY 1,3.1 General Objective 1. To create, a classification scheme under DDC to arrange books/documents of Sathya Sal literature. 2. To discover the classification schemes used by various libraries of Kathmandu & Lalitapur district to arrange Sathya Sai literature 1.3.2 Specific Objectives lL. To collect information from various Sathya Sai & non Sathya Sai libraries of Kathmandu & Lalitapur regarding their schemes/methods of arrangement of Sathya Sai literature. 2 To identify the difficulties for arranging Sathya Sai literature in libraries. 3. To find out the solution for organizing Sathya Sai literature in a scientific way ifneeded. 4. To assess the need for appropriate classification scheme for classifying Sathya Sai literature, 5. To suggest the libraries to organize Sathya Sai literature technically as far as possible. 1.4 HYPOTHESIS: It is difficult to organize the Sathya Sai Literature in the libraries & Information Centre without a specific classification scheme. 1.5 SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY Plan for Dissemination As the study will not be valued until it is disseminated and communicated to the masses to implement the result for the benefit of the libraries. So, the researcher has planned to disseminate the study findings as follows: One copy of report will be submitted to the Department of Library & Information Science. se One copy of report will be submitted tv the Tribhuvan University Central Library. The soft copy of the report will be submitted to the OCLC @ Affer taking the permission from OCLC the researcher will try to advise the Sathya Sai libraries to organize the Sathya Sai literature technically. Limitations of the study: - The study is a descriptive one. = The libraries of vuly Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts are included. = Since self-administered questionnaires were used, the adequacy of information provided is sometimes unsatisfactory and sometimes incorrect. ~ Notall libraries provided the needed information. - Since Sai libraries mainly had unqualified staffs, the information given by them regarding the need for a classification scheme may be totally religiously biased. = The non-Sai libraries rarely had any materials on SSL, which indicates that they may not be clearly understanding the need for a classification scheme to sort out the vast literature regarding Sathya Sai Baba. - The classification scheme suggested by the researcher cannot be used by those libraries who are using soft wares for the arrangement of books in the libraries. 1.6 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY ‘This study will contribute in various ways: = The study findings will help to find out the collection of SSL (Sathya Sai Literature) in different libraries of Kathmandu & Lalitapur district. = — It will reveal the organizing system of SSL in the libraries and the problems faced by the different libraries in arranging Sathya Sai literature... se If needed the researcher shall try to develop a new classification schcme for SSL that might be helpful for all libraries to classify SSL in a systematic manner. > The findings (Relative Index) will be helpful to develop the thesaurus for the SSF. 1.7 Definition 4.7.1 Terms Aarati Ardent Avatar Ral Bikas Benedictory Bhagawan Bhajans Brahma Muhurtham Brahmagyan Darsan, Dasara Dhyanam Educare Fathomless Gram Seva Gupta Gurupurnima Japam Krishna Janmashtami Mantras Moksha Narayan Seva Sai Baba Sai Trinity = Evening Pray = Eager = Incarnation = Child Development (Spirituality) = Blessing = God — Devotional Songs = Early moming = Knowledge of the identify by self = be holding physical appearance of His Grace = Festival of victory = Meditation ~ To bring out that which is within = not possible to measure Village adapted = Hidden; protect = Teacher's day = Repetition of holy name = Birthday of Lord Krishna = A form of spiritual initiation of an aspirant by his Guru = Knowledge of the identify by self = To donate food for human Beings (Nara =Man Narayan=Lord Bishnu) = Father Mother = Three incarnation; Shirdi Sai Baba, Sathya Sai Baba, Prema Sai Baba Sai = Lord Samitis = Organizations Sanathan = Name forms assumed by the Lord for granting boons to Sarba Dharma = Universal Religion Sarvadevataswaroopam = All gods rolled into one Seva = Service Sri Ram Navami = Rirthday of Lord Ram Swami = Master Vahini = Series of book written by Sathya Sai Baba Vijayadasami = Festival of Durga Puja 1.7.2 Operational Sathya Sai library - The libraries relating to Sathya Sai Schools, Sathya Sai organization etc. Non Sathya Sai library - ‘Ihe libraries non relating to Sathya Sai Baba, Salhya Sai Organization ete. It is concer with review of related literature, Review of related literature include both research and non research materials of articles, journals, books, documents and Internet for relevant to the study. The purpose of literature review is to find out certain information that need to be included in the study, draw conclusion of the study. The primary purpose of literature review is to confirm what has already been done in related field and has more need to be done. It also helps to find-nut certain aspects that need to be included in the study to get certain data that may be applicable to interpret the conclusion of the study. Hence, following topics has been selected to review the literature for this study: 2.1 General information on Bhagavan Shree Sathya Sai Baba 2.2 General information on literature related to Sathya Sai Publications. 2.3. General information on literature related to global library classification scheme, 2.4 — General information on literature related to special classification Scheme on religion. 25 Need of Classification scheme for organizing the literature 2.1 General information on Bhagawan Shree Sathya Sai Baba Sathya Sai Baba is the avatar of present age incamated in human form, as promised by Lord Krishna over 5000 years ago. Division is more or less a reverse process. It consists of dividing classes into sub-classes and sub-classes into further sub-classes and sv ont"? Classification provides a system for organizing knowledge. It is used to organize knowledge represented in any form, e.g., books, documents, electronic resources etc. Classification is the translation of the subject in notation. "Notation is the system of symbols used to represent the classes in a classification system. In the Dewey Decimal Classification, the notation is expressed in Arabic numerals. The notation provides a universal language to identify the class and related classes, regardless of the fact that different words or languages may be used to describe the class" Introduction of Library Classification The Definition of library classification is- "It is the translation of the name of the subject of a book into a preferred artificial language of ordinal numbers, and the individualization of the several books dealing with the same specific subject by means of a further set of ardinal numbers which represent some features of the book other than their thought- content. The first of these ordinal numbers called the Class Number of the book. The second ordinal number is calted its Book Number. It is usual, in practice, to separate the book number from the class number by a space or to write one below the other . ‘The class number and the book number together constitute the call number of a book. ‘The call a6 number fixes the position of a book relative to the other books in a library’ About the library classification schemes "The schemes of library classification formulated during the last one hundred years have been designed to arrange the documents on a shelf in a helpful sequence. Certain schcmes have been worked out in great detail, so that even micro-documents can be classified to achieve class numbers coextensive within the specific subject of the documents being classified. In addition, these have provided individualizing ordinal numbers for the mechanization of the preferred sequence of documents on the shelf"? Some of the global Library Classification scheme are as follows Universal Decimal Classification (UDC)"The Universal Decimal Classification (UDC) is a scheme for classifying the whole field of knowledge. It can be applied both to the literature which records knowledge and to the catalogues, indexes, etc., which refer to the literature. It enables these to be arranged in such a way that all references to information ® Dewey Decimal Classification and Relative Index/ devised by Melvil Dewey/ edited by Joan S. "Derived near a century ago ftom the Dewey Decimal Classification, the system has been steadily amplified and modified to cope with the ever-inereasing output of recorded knowledge in all its branches and forms, but most particularly in the fields of science and technology. It has become widely accepted internationally as a standard system and has been used in many hundreds of libraries and information services (for subject cataloguing or indexing, filing and shelving), in periodicals (for classifying articles or abstracts) and in a numerous bibliographies and reference lists (for grouping individual items by subject)"” “Due to its standard international notation, not dependent on any alphabet or tongue, the UDC helps to minimize language difficulties in international communication and may even provide a suitable basis for comparative terminology in technical vocabularies, glossaries, ete."(web site) The UDC structure - notation appears on the following table"* 0 Generalities 3 Pure science, mathematical é& natural | Philosophy 6 [Applied science: medicine and technology 2 | Religion 7 |The At 3 | Social Science including Law, | 8 | Language and Literature Education 4 __| Philology, Linguistics) deteted-|~ 9 | Geography, Biography, History included in 8 T http://www. ifla. org/IV/ifla66/papers/034-130e.htm Risbd Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC): Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme is the global classification schemes in the world which is mostly used in the libraries of more than 135 countries. "More than 200,000 libraries worldwide in 135 countries count on the DDC to keep their collections organized so that their users can easily locate the resources they need . DDC has been translated into more than 30 languages"(OCIC United States-website-Web Dewey) "The DDC is a general knowledge organization tool that is continuously revised to keep pace with knowledge. The system was conceived by Melvil Dewey in 1873 and first published in 1876" ‘About the structure of DDC " The main structure of the DDC is presented in the DDC Summaries in the beginning of volume 2. The first summary contains the main classes. The second summary contains the hundred divisions. ‘he third summary contains the thousand sections. The headings associated with the numbers in the summaries have been edited for browsing purposes, do not necessarily match the complete headings found in the schedules"® As this thesis/research is based in DDC the subjects of the summaries has been defined in organization part. DDC and LCC Are General Classification Systems: Chan, Comaromi, and Satija remind us that the purpose of the Dewey Decimal Classification is to arrange a general collection of materials—"[the DDC] aims ta classify books and other material on all subjects in all languages in every kind of library .... Similarly, LCC is designed to provide order for a general collection, the collection of the hitp:/hvww. ifla org/l V/itlab6/papers/034-130e.htmLibrary of Congress. Although based on the collection ofa single library, the LC Classification has been successfully adopted by amajority of U.S. academic and research libraries.” .!" ° OCLC United States-website-WebDewey ' Dewey, Metvil Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme.-22 e¢.-Ohio:OCLC,2003x0xviii vil 17 “It was Melvil Dewey who first popularized the application of this device to the arrangement of subjects, and he is rightly referred to as the father of modem library classification. Library classification means the reduction of subjects and books to ordinal numbers for specific purposes.” 7 2.4 General information on literature related to special classification Scheme on religion: Many academic and research libraries are using the Dewey Decimal Classification or the Library of congress classification scheme. Special libraties devoted to specifie disciplines may use subject-oriented classification schemes eg. National Library of Medicine Classification of health sciences collection. Dewey Decimal System is used internationally; it often falls short of meeting the needs of many cultures, religions and countries. This is most evident when a special library attempts to classify large amounts of materials that normally are placed in only one or two classes. "The subject of religion is dealt with in detail in all of the major general systems of library classificatiun. In every one it is accorded main class status, often collocated with the main class for Philosophy, and includes, or is proximate to, related subjects such as Ethics, the Occult and Mysticism." "In 1975 an Orthodox College in Jerusalem decided to use the Elazar classification for their Judaica section instead of the original 200 Dewey class or Sholem’s 296 and 933, as the librarian put it, “intricate classes". They simply put a 2 before the Hlazar numbers, “http://staff.ocle.org/~vizine/Intercat/vizine-goetz.bim#ci '® Ranganathan, S.K. Elements of Library Classification ~ 2nd ed.-Bangolare: Sarada Ranganathan Endowment of Library Science, 1991, 2-7 ' hetp:/www ifla.org/[V/ifla66/papers/034-130e.htm and translated the text to Hehrew. For example 003 became 200.3 . They were obliged to make modifications because of the introduction of the digit "2" before the numbers, They also put the Mishna before Talmud Bavli, and deleted or modify some of the classes that were inadequate for their library. Some numbers were added especially in the sections dealing with Jewish Law and customs” * "A major difficulty in constructing a classification for religious literature is that of avoiding bias (whether real ar apparent) toward some specific religion or denomination. In some cases this is unavoidable, and not necessarily undesirable; for example the major ‘general-special’ published classification for theological books, the New York Union Thevlugical Seminary Classification exhibits a strong Roman Catholic bias - but it is a classification for a Roman Catholic collection and tailored to its content. However, a scheme intended for universal application should be as far as possible free of such imbalance and steps must be taken to eliminate it. Bias occurs, or is perceived to occur, in three main areas: «an illogical order, or distribution of notation, that causcs one system to uppear as dominant * use of vocabulary that has a strong flavor of one system or is special to that system «inadequate provision of detail other than for the ‘favored’ religion *' 2.5 Need of Classification scheme for organizing the literature "Classification by subjects should indeed subordinate the more special subjects to the respective general subjects. There results a more consistent collocation of closely related subjects for convenience in reference and research, Books arranged in smalt 19 groups in some order can be located more readily than in extensive arrangement, provided the groups have correlative notation and an alphabetic index to that order"!* Derwick Sayers Stated about need of library Classification” As classification is applied in libraries; it brings like books together; it saves time in finding them; it reveals the weakness or strength of the collection; it makes systematic revision of and addition to the stock possible. In fact, it is the foundation of all successful modern library work"’* “Kumar, P.S.G ‘A Student's Manual of Library and Information Science.-New Dethi:BRPC,2002:394—395p. 20 Chapter 3 Understanding of the Subject [Focus of the Study] 3. Sathya Sai Education in Human Values (SSEHV) 298.71-79 SSEILV takes its name from Sathya Sai Baba, the great contemporary world educator. Sathya Sai Baba says that education has two aspects: © the first is related to external and worldly education © the second aspect , known as Educare, is related to human values The word "Educare" means to bring out that which is within. Sathya Sai Baba teaches that human values are innate in every human being and that true education develops the full human potential of every individual. It is because human values are absent in “educated” persons that they are steeped in anxiety and worry. The programme of SSEHV elicits the human values from within the hearts and minds of each individual and promotes the daily application of the values in each lite. To promote the awakening of these values, Sathya Sai Baba has established an educational system in India consisting of primary and secondary schools, colleges and an accredited university. The educational system emphasizes character development 35 along with the acquisition of skills and knowledge. The universal nature of Sathya Sai Education in Human Values is poignantly demonstrated by its enthusiastic reception in over 170 countries and diverse cultures throughout the world. ‘The SSEHV program rests on the five pillars of Truth, Right Action, Peace, Love and Nonviolence and the spiritual principles embedded within these values. Summary, Conclusion and Recommendation 6.1 Summary and main findings of the study A total of 20 libraries, 9 Sathya Sai Libraries and 11 non Sathya Sai Libraries were studied with self administered questionnaires. On the basis of findings of the study, discussion, conclusion and recommendations have been presented in this chapter. 6.1.1 Summary about Sathya Sai Libraries Most of the Sathya Sai libraries have non-qualified library in charges having little knowledge about management of library as well as knowledge of classification schemes. As figure number 1 shows, 67% of the staffs are non-qualified and 11% are partially trained, Out of the library staffs, only 33% were educated to a bachelor or above level and a majority were qualified up to intermediate or less (as shown in figure No 2). This may be because, in the Sathya Sai Libraries, the devotees of Sathya Sai Baba usually work voluntarily and it is difficult to find permanent and qualified personnel working at the libraries. As a result, the library staffs have very few, almost no knowledge about library management. This is a big limitation of the study because, these staffs can hardly Judge the need for a classification scheme. ‘Most Sathya Sai libraries had a majority of SSL ranging to an average number of books of 302.4, Most Sathya Sai libraries also have a large collection of other materials like photographs, CDs, Videos and audios of Sathya Sai Baba out of which photographs were most popular as shown in figure no. 4. The use of software in Sathya Sai Libraries is 103 only 22 percent and those who use software are using, CDS/ISIS soft ware developed by UNESCO ‘Majority of respondents organized the literature according to Accession number which is 49 percent. Books/literature are organized by Dewey Decimal Classification is only 12 percent. This may be because, most of the library staffs are not qualified and do not have a sound knowledge of the classification schemes available. All Sai libraries recommended that there should be a classification scheme for arranging ‘SSL and the need for the scheme was shown to be 100% as shown in fig. 6. 6.1.2 Summary about non- Sai libraries Out of 11 libraries, only 4 libraries had materials regarding Suthya Sai Baba. The average number of books of SSL in these libraries were 8. Out of the 3 libraries having books/ journals on SSL, one used their own classification scheme, one used Master file no. while the other used DDC class number 294.501 to arrange SSL. 55% of the non-Sai libraries use computer soft wares fro the arrangement of books. This shows that in, non Sai libraries, due to qualified and trained manpower (63.6% qualified personnel), the arrangement of books were more systematic than in Sai libraries. Since the library staffs are qualified, their views and needs are more significant than the unqualified staffs of Sai libraries. 56% of the Non- Sai libraries feel the need of a new classification scheme for SSL. A low percentage of needs may be due to the fact that these libraries have only few number of books related to SSL and perhaps have no idea about the vast numbers of books published every year regarding SSL. 104 6.1.3 Combined results Hence, combining the needs of Sai and Non-Sai libraries, it can be ascertained that out of 20 libraries, 14 i.¢. 70% felt the need for classification scheme for SSL. 6.2 Conclusion of the Study The study was conducted to find out the knowledge of Sathya Sai Literature as well as their organization system in the libraries. A descriptive study was included in Sathya Sai Libraries ( nine Libraries) and non Sathya Sai Libraries (11 Libraries of Kathmandu and Lalitapur. The conclusion for this study was draw as follows: = Most Sathya Sai Libraries had a majority of Sathya Sai Literature ranging an average number of books of 302.4. = Inout of H1 non Sathya Sai Libraries, only 4 libraries had materials regarding Sathya Sai Baba. The averaye number uf books uf Sutliya Sai Literature in thse libraries were 8. * 55% of the non Sathya Sai Libraries use computer soft wares for the arrangement of their collection. This shows that in, non Satha Sai Libraries due to qualified and trained manpower (63.6% qualified personnel) the arrangement/management of collection were more systematic then in Sathya Sai Libraries © 56% of the non Sathya Sai Libraries feel the need of new classification system for Sathya Sai literature, © 100% of Sathya Sai Libraries recommended there should be a classification scheme for the organization of Sathya Sai literature . 105 - The combined findings result of the new classification scheme for Sathya Sai Literature from both the libraries (Sathya Sai and non Sathya Sai libraries) are 70 % which felt the need for Classification Scheme . 6.3 Recommendations: Since, 70% of the libraries visited showed the need of developing a classification scheme for SSL, the researcher has developed class numbers under 298 under DDC with written permission from OCLC which is in chapter 3. Apart from this, the researcher also recommends the following few things to the development of libraries: Employing qualified library incharges in Sathya Sai libraries or to provide training for library staffs in Sathya Sai libraries. Use of scientific classification schemes for arrangement of books in library Use of computer soft wares in libraries as far as practicable. Collection development Library management ete Networking of libraries in Local, National and International level. 6.4 Problems faced during the study: Lack of time Lack of financial and material resources Lack of adequate orientation regarding how to approach a thesis topic. Lack of previous rescarch materials regarding the topic. Lack of knowledge about Sathya Sai Baba and the vast literature published every year by concerned individuals involved in the research. 106 - Lack of knowledge of classification schemes by the incharges of the Sai libraries. - Lack of thesaurus in Sai literature. 107 BIBLIOGRAPHY Adhikari, Raj Devi Effectiveness of educational intervention on knowledge and skills regarding breast self- examination among females school teachers / by Raj Devi Adhikari.
