Boris Dralyuk, my former editor at Los Angeles Review of Books, suggested I send

my novel, Lost Cause, First Effect to you. He mentioned that you will shortly be
publishing John Shannon, whose books Ive been reading for years. Ive read
various MP books- my favorite being Stephen Graham Jones Growing Up Dead in
Texas- and agree with Boris that my novel could easily fit into your list of books.

Three thirteen year-old boys beat a man to death in a Pasadena alleyway. Its 1959,
and school friends Billy and Cassie witness the event. Years later, in the me-culture
of the 1980s, Billy is a struggling investigative reporter who still has nightmares
about that night. When successful real estate agent Cassie shows up on his San
Francisco doorstep to ask for his help in finding her and, following a one-night stand
years before, perhaps his daughter, Billy has no way of knowing that, in revisiting
the past, hes about to enter a dark world in which deceit, murder, drink, drugs and
sex are the order of the day and the past is best left forgotten.
