A 60 min lesson once a week in a classroom
at his school, after the school day is over.
However, he does go back home for an hour,
meaning that sometimes he can be very
late.
His mother wants him to improve his
speaking skills as there isnt enough
conversation in his English lessons at school.

Resources needed: LEGO, camera or


mobile phone with camera, computer,
Youtube.

How the project will be integrated into

Language aims:

Project details:
The finished product would be a stop
animation film made out of LEGO (Brickfilm).
But this would incorporate a number of
smaller language projects which all
contribute to the final film:
1- Create characters with LEGO. Write
biographies of the characters
(adjectives to describe character and
appearance)
2- Create a story with the same
characters. Decide what genre, when,
and where the story takes place.
3- Once the story is built take a picture
of the set and write the story down or
make a comic as HW to have as
written record.
4- Introduce the idea of making a film.
Extend the comic by writing a script
for the film.
5- Show Youtube video on how to make a
brickfilm.
6- Make brickfilm (maybe over a series of
lessons as this can take quite long)
7- Post on Youtube as seeing their work
online can be very encouraging for
children.

the course:
I took over this lesson half way through the
year from another teacher. It started off as a
group course, but now only Jakub is left. This
has allowed me to focus mainly on what his
parents want him to get out of the course, so
it has gradually become a conversation
class.
Some of the class activities we used were
games and tasks related to things he was
interested in (i.e. sports, comics, LEGO).
When I first used LEGO with him, I noticed
that out of all of the activities we had used in
our lessons, this one was the one he enjoyed
the most. He was really focused and
genuinely excited about playing with it in
lessons and thus conversation flowed more
naturally.
Because of this the project can be nicely
integrated into the course as it expands the
use of LEGO. Before, the activities that I
used were quite disconnected from one
another. This way there is a certain
continuity that the student may benefit from
- keeping him engaged and motivated to
come on time to class.

To develop speaking and listening skills


To develop vocabulary (i.e. adjectives of
personality and appearance, emotions, film,
etc.)
To practice writing.
