MEDIA ADVISORY

Press Conference:
Reclaim New York To Announce First Statewide Database of Local Government
Spending & Transparency Standards, with Guests, Comptroller George Maragos,
Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel
What: Reclaim New York will host a press conference with special guests Nassau County Comptroller
George Maragos, and Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel to announce the launch of New Yorks first
searchable online database of local government spending, and a new government transparency
scorecard.
The announcement is the next phase of Reclaim New Yorks unprecedented state-wide Transparency
Project that is in the process of using the Freedom of Information Law, and litigation, to force New
Yorks over 3,400 government entities to show taxpayers how their money is being spent. The new
database, which will launch with Long Island spending data, enables citizens to search for any local
governments checkbook for the first time. The transparency checklist will give local governments a
road map to become more open and accessible, and further empower citizens.
Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos will be highlighted for his efforts to increase proactive
transparency. The Reclaim database is patterned after Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandels groundbreaking
transparency efforts in his home state, that have earned national praise as a model for improving
disclosure and accountability.
