At the end of the class ss will demonstrate the ability to communicate through interpersonal and group activities involving different grammar and create

-WORKSHEET names of various sports are introduced, and


students learn how to speak about their likes and dislikes
using the present simple. Pupils learn the structure like, don't
like, likes and doesn't like. There is a speaking activity in
which students practice the target language.
-Comprehension worksheet for pre-intermediate students on
sports related vocabulary. Students are asked to read the text,
answer the questions, find out whether the statements given
are true or false, justify their decision by quoting from the
text and find questions for the answers given.

-Speaking activity (A set of 10 questions, each of which


begins with "What do you need..." There are several ways
how to use them. Elementary students can make word lists as
answers; these can be more specifically made into groups of
count and uncount nouns. Pre-intermediate and higher level
students can give full and (more or less) elaborate answers.
Examples of questions:
What do you need... ... to go to a sports center?... to go on a
summer holiday?... to give a birthday party?... to prepare a
good meal?... to prepare for the Christmas day? There are
two sets per page).
-Ice Breaker: The students must walk around the classroom
asking others the questions and if the sport is their favorite
one, or if they can do a certain activity then write their name
down.
When the activity is finished students will be asked questions
about whose favorite sport is basketball and the students
must call out the name of the person they have on their sheet.

-Brainstorm about pros and cons for sports then later the
teacher will give a paper to implement new words that are
very important for this topic. The parts of the speech have
been shown, the pros and the cons are also shown, but they
can be used after the students have brainstormed themselves.

- Group the students and let them ask their classmates how

they spend their free time, what their favorite pastime is and
how often they do it. A group should call one member from
the other group and write his/her details in the box. Groups
will ask one question at a time. The first group to complete at
least two columns wins.
-Video about the song Sport at Heart: the students should pay Projector
a lot of attention to the video then complete a survey in
groups of four ss. The first part is based on the visual aspect
of the video: they must recognize the different monuments
they can see, then the different sports and finally the
celebrities. In the second part, they must focus on the song
and its meaning.
- Fill gap activity using the British Olympics 2012 'flame
song'. The worksheet is a listening activity then a look at the
vocab finding synonyms. Then adjectives, comparatives and
superlatives from the song. Link:

-GAME: "Who wants to be a Millionaire" (They play in


teams of 4 and they can discuss the questions together. Then
they decide on an answer. If their answer is wrong one
person from the team has to leave the team (they decide
who). Even if there is only one person remaining the points
are given to all the students from his/her team. The team
with most points wins.)
