PRE PRODUCTION GUIDELINES

1. Tutorial Overview - For each full day you are in the studio, your material will be
broken into two tutorial titles. They can be seen as simply Part I & II, but we encourage
you to come up with a more creative pair of titles if it applies. A normal full shoot day is
roughly 6 hours with a 1 hour lunch break. The AM and PM sessions will consist of 3
hours of in-studio time each. See the work schedule below.
800AM - 830AM
830AM - 900AM
900AM - 1200PM
1200PM - 100PM
100PM - 400PM

Newcomers Introduction*
Arrival/Set-Up
Tutorial A
Lunch
Tutorial B

*This is only required if you have not filmed in our studio before.
We understand that not all tutorials or material will not fit perfetly into this framework.
Smaller amounts of material may only generate one title and less time in studio on
shoot day. Your material may run long and may have to be completed on another day
you're in studio. We will work with you to figure out a solution that works for both us.
2. Tutorial Outline - Plan and construct an outline for each one of your tutorials. This
outline should be wholly original and not pre-existing. The material covered should be
broken into natural sections lasting no more than 30 minutes in length. If you anticipate
a certain section to exceed that length, please break it into two even parts. These
section titles should be encompassing and minimalistic. In addition to sections, we also
ask you to create Bookmarks for each section. These bookmarks will double as key
points you will want to emphasize during the tutorial and later serve as indexes for
viewers to navigate during the video. Breaking the tutorial up into sections creates
better organization and flow, while allowing time for feedback, further direction,
comments, water, bathroom use and preparation for the following section. These breaks
are brief, but necessary. Please see the below template to construct your outline. You
will be asked to provide an editable copy (.docx) of this on the day of your shoot.
1. Interface Overview (Section)
The Ribbon (Bookmark)

Windows
2. Importing
Sequence Settings
Naming Conventions
Bin Organization

3. Tutorial Teaser - Prepare a scripted introduction of your tutorial. Your script will be
fed into our teleprompter for you to read at the end of your tutorial session. This
introduction should be 60-90 seconds in duration and should emphasize the following
points:

Introduction/welcoming to the complete title of the tutorial

Brief history/explanation of what it is you are giving a tutorial on

Quick rundown of the tutorial outline and what youll be covering

Benefits/take-aways user will have by purchasing this tutorial

4. Tips & Tricks - Prepare a quick informational snippet on certain tips or tricks that
users will find helpful. These can be seen as hacks or shortcuts that improve time and
efficieny. It should last only 1-3 minutes in length and will be used as markerting
materials for your tutorial. This will be filmed at the end of your tutorial session.
5. Biography - Prepare a scripted biography to introduce yourself. Your script will be
fed into our teleprompter for you to read at the end of the 1st shoot day. This biography
should be 30-60 seconds in duration and should emphasize the following points:

Your name

Education (regardless if relevant)

Brief tour through your professional career

Current occupation

Closing remarks
6. Computer/Software - All courses being taught on one or more of Microsofts Suite
software titles, we have a PC laptop and MacBook for your use during the shoot day. If
your course requires a software title outside of the Microsfot Suite, please plan to use
your machine, there a few things you will have make sure of before using it on shoot
day:

An HDMI port is available

The internal microphone is functioning

The machine is clean of any viruses, malware, adware, etc.

At least 20gb of space is available

Desktop is cleared of any unnecessary icons

The software being covered is up to date

Build out all materials ahead of time such as models, graphs, charts, etc.

Note that we will be installing screen capturing software on your computer on the
day of shooting and you will be instructed on how to operate this when you are in
our studio.
7. Practice - The best advice we can give is to take the time before you come in to go
over all the materials you will be covering. We suggest going through the tutorial in its
entirety to familiarize yourself with each step and detail as to not miss anything during
the shoot. Keep in mind that unlike a classroom or lecture hall, you do not have the
reinforcement of an audience. Prepare to prompt most commonly asked questions and

answers during your course. Confidence is far and away the biggest attribute that users
will notice, and practice will help boost that.

8. Attire - Here are few key pieces of information to keep in mind for how to dress:

Avoid the color green, stripes, loud patterns and dresses

Stick to solid colors, ties can have patterns/stripes

Wear comfortable shoes, as we will only be filming you from the waist up and you
will be standing for extended periods of time

Button-down shirts/blouses, pant suits/sport jackets, skirts/slacks all work

Note you will be asked to wear a wireless microphone that must be strung up
under your shirt
