VISIT, BOARD, SEARCH AND SEIZURE (VBSS)

Visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) is the term used by military
and law enforcement agencies for maritime boarding actions and tactics.
VBSS teams are used to combat illegal narcotics, arms trafficking and piracy.
Conducting maritime interdiction and sanction enforcement is a crucial part
of Navys Maritime Strategy. A vital asset in executing that mission are the
Navy's visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) teams.

Skills taught in VBSS training revolve around Close Quarters Battle
(CQB). Training consists of proficiency in tactical movements and shooting,
hand-to-hand offensive and defensive combat tactics, rappelling, searching,
non-compliant combatant detention and several other combat skills.

U.S. Navy VBSS teams are generally armed with M4 carbines ,
Mossberg
500
shotguns
and
Beretta
M9
pistols.
VBSS team use Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIB) to conduct the Operation.
VBSS is conducted as a part of Maritime Interdiction Operation (MIO). VBSS
is conducted in all spectrum of conflict. It is also conducted in peace time.

BN SWADS is capable of conducting such operation. As BDs waters is
not free from nontraditional threats, BN need to prepare her VBSS team
properly.
