Department Of Leadership Studies

M.Sc., MBA, MBA (Executive), M.S./M.Phil Leading to Ph.D.

The postgraduate program in Leadership Studies (LS) is a program preparing its


graduates for positions of responsibility in education, military, private industry,
government and the not-for-profit sectors dedicated to the improvement of both the
substance and processes of leadership in a variety of roles. Today's changing social-
business environment and increasing globalization have created an international
community demanding global management. The program provides professional
education for students interested in leadership careers. The program also equips students
with knowledge, skills and attitudes that will help them begin their career anywhere in
the world and to ensure that they will have the education to meet their goals and become
leaders in their own field. To achieve this, the program provides students with a broad
and thorough knowledge of the main features of organization management and current
comprehensive analysis of management theory and practices, and promotes students
understanding with applied innovative learning and teaching practices. The
interdisciplinary program is designed to stress the knowledge, skills, values, and
behaviors essential to the successful organizational leaders. Some flexibility in
curriculum is permitted to meet the diverse educational needs of students at different
points of time in their careers and in need of specialization in light of their career goals.
The curriculum components are designed to produce professionals capable of intelligent
and creative analysis, communication, and action in leadership functions. Within this
context, students get familiar with both the theoretical background and the practical
techniques of Business Administration.
The Master of Leadership Studies (MLS) program curriculum provides broad-based
leadership and management skills for program graduates. With a focus on leadership in
management, students study management and organizational theory, decision making,
project management, legal and ethical issues in a global environment, corporate social
responsibility, and the application of technology to decision making and communication.
Using case studies, small group interactions, student presentations and research papers,
students practice the application of theory to service and manufacturing environments in
both profit and nonprofit organizations. Technology integration enhances students'
efficiency and effectiveness in skill development. Leadership and management courses
cover a combination of theory, research and practical application in areas such as
strategic planning, project management and management-labor relations.
The Leadership Studies program is committed to enabling students to:
1. be knowledgeable and perform effectively in their profession in a changing global
environment;
2. make informed and responsible personal and professional choices;
3. demonstrate proficiency in project management;
4. demonstrate initiative in developing connections and networks;
5. demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with others;
6. demonstrate ability to write, speak and use technology effectively.

Admission Requirements for M.S/M.Phil Leading to Ph.D

Course Work - 36 credit hours


Thesis - 14 credit hours

A minimum of 16 years education or equivalent

 MBA
 M.Sc./M.Com/M.A. Economics or equivalent
 BBA (Hons-16 years education)
 Admission Test (GAT/NDU Entry Test)
 Interview
 Merit is determined on the following basis:-

(i) Previous Academic Performance - 40%


(ii) GAT - 25%
(iii) NDU Entry Test - 25%
(iv) Interview - 10%

Note:- Applicants with a degree other than MBA./BBA shall be required to take some
additional courses in order to fulfill pre-requisite deficiencies.

I. M.S Leadership Studies


M.S Program in Leadership Studies is offered with specializations in Leadership Studies,
Human Resource Leadership, Financial Leadership, Marketing Leadership and
Entrepreneurial Leadership. Each candidate is required to complete the following
courses:-

M.S Leadership Studies encouraging the students to learn and reflect on business and
management practice and leadership. Each candidate is required to complete the

The duration of M.S. program is 1.5 years to two years. The students complete their
course work either in two semesters or three and then write up their theses in the final
semester. The award of degree is subject to maintaining a CGPA of 3.00/4.00.

Stream I - M.Sc Leadership Studies (Morning)

Program Structure
In order to earn this degree the students need to complete 66 credit hours followed by the
internship / industrial project. It consists or four semesters i.e two years.

Internship / Project (03 Credit Hours)


The MBA Program student shall complete 6 to 8 weeks internship in the organization and
produce the Internship Certificate of the organization concerned to the Department. The
students who are already in service shall be exempted from Internship.

Comprehensive Examination
In order to test the over all performance of the students a written comprehensive
examination will be conducted after completion of MBA course work.

Stream II - M.Sc Leadership Studies (Evening)

Aim:
To develop and enhance the knowledge and leadership capabilities of highly motivated
middle managers and individuals in specialist posts to enable them to progress strategic
management positions in the private, public and their sectors.

Program Structure: (66 credit hours)


The program is divided into 22 courses of 3 credit hours each. In order to earn an MBA
degree a student has to complete 22 courses i.e. The program spans over 14-16 weeks
teaching out of which one week is reserved for examinations. Each course is taught for 48
contact hours. In order to become eligible to appear in term examination, one should have
at least 36 contact hours. A student can register for a minimum of two courses in a term.
So this way, courses will be offered five times during a year. A regular student can thus
complete his/her MBA degree within two years. The program is flexible in term of time,
money and personal knowledge of requirements of an individual.
The courses for Evening Program and fields of specialization are the same as for Stream I.

A student can acquire certificate or Diploma in Business Administration on completion of


24 and 36 credit hours respectively.

The students having 14 years education with BA, B.Sc, B.Com will have to take 60 credit
hours undergraduate core courses to complete the deficiency. After completing the
deficiency courses, they will take 30 credit hours graduate courses as of stream 1.
