1. What was the research forum all about?

With the title of Folk Healthcare Seeking Behaviors among
selected residents of Marikina City, the first researcher talks about
use of folk medicine at rural areas. He stated some folk medicines that
are much unknown nowadays in urban areas may be due to adoption
of medical culture in western part of the world and usage of folk
medicine requires a leap of faith. The speaker encourages the student
to deepen the study regarding folk medicine to revive the culture of
Filipinos. While on the other hand, the second speaker tackles about
effect of ear acupuncture to typhoon victims. He says that acupuncture
promotes calmness of mind, serenity, and decreases blood pressure.
He also stated that acupuncture can be taken by anybody with high
school diploma in order to get a certificate and advance usage of
acupuncture in the Philippines.
2. What were the things that made impact to me as a student nurse?
On the first research, as a student nurse, I realized that folk
medicine could be possibly revived. We just need to become openminded and conduct more research about those folk medicines to filter
which is true and effective and which one is myth. But on the second
research, I was moved by the speaker and want to become
acupuncturist someday. I want to use my knowledge to help depressed
individuals and drug addicts as part of the benefits on using
acupuncture.
3. What were my take home learnings and how can I apply them in the
clinical/community?
My take home learnings will be how to become open-minded in
terms of medical field. If I know those folk medicines, I could apply it to

community area. And also if I know how to use acupuncture, I can help
many individuals even in small things. Research is important. We need
to deepen or knowledge and understanding in every matter.
