The Alpha Iota Newsletter (3ivne.
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Alpha Delia State
‘Good Afternoon Ladies,
hope you have all enjoyed a restful,
are nearly ready to return to your normal fall schedules and routines. For better
‘or worse, after ten years of slowly rising through the ranks of Alpha Iota, from
Parliamentarian to 2nd/tst V.P., Lam now the President of our chapter. [look
forward to the challenge and hope you will bear with me as I learn the
responsibilities of my new office. My ultimate desire for all of us this year is that
‘we make attendance at DKG meetings a priority and that each of us becomes
involved in the work of our chapter in some small way.
‘There has been a change to report in our slate of officers. At the end of
June, Sue Weber-Nape reluctantly resigned as 2nd V.P., but Jackie Mercer, Ann
Hall, and Amy Johnson graciously helped bridge the gap until a replacement
‘could be found for her. Ann offered to update the 2016-18 yearbooks which are
being converted to standard size paper this year (8.5"x11"), Jackie volunteered to
‘write the fall newsletter and Amy ultimately found someone to take Sue's place.
‘Thus we will be installing Barbara Lipp as 2nd VP. at our first fall meeting. She
‘will begin her duties in January wit the writing of our winter newsletter.
Regarding last spring's meetings/events, I was overwhelmed by our
chapter's response to our special service project in March- the collection of
‘books, school and art supplies for young hospitalized children. The volunteer
‘working at the Akron Childrens’ Hospital (Boardman) when I dropped off those
‘materials, was literally speechless, Thanks to all of you for your generosity! In
‘May, we honored members reaching significant milestones in Alpha Iota, heard a
tribute to the State founders, installed officers and remembered our sisters, Vera
Hauer and Gretchen Baldwin. We also enjoyed seeing Pat Trotter at the May
‘meeting.
Having missed the state leadership development workshop this summer, 1
reached out to Alpha Delta State President, Patricia Cermak, and was pleased t0
receive a huge packet of newly-revised booklets for our chapter which I will
distribute shortly. [also learned that the popular Tri-County Joint Chapters
‘meeting will be held on Wed., October 19th, at A La Cart Catering in Canfield
(see details inside.
Our Executive committee worked hard to plan a schedule of enjoyable,
informative programs for the upcoming year which would have broad appeal,
‘from an exhilarating hayride, to “Bring a Friend” night at the Leetonia
Library for the purpose of introducing others to DKG. It has been quite some
time since we have added any new members, so please try to think of qualified
‘candidates in your own circle of acquaintances who might be interested in joining
‘our group, and INVITE THEM! See you in September!“GDKG
What’s Happening in Our Chapter??
~*~March~*~
“March was our service project month. We met at Yellow Creek Presbyterian Church in Wellsville, After
conducting our business meeting, we filled bags with donations of books and other materials for preschoolers
‘who are patients at Akron Children’s Hospital in Boardman, What a wonderfully fulfiling and important
service project this was!
~*~April~*~
In April we met at Beaver Creek Wildlife Center. This was such a fun meeting! We brought packed dinners,
and held our business meeting first. We voted for our officers at this meeting and discussed some changes in,
the newsletter and the “red book” After we adjourned our meeting, we toured the facility. Curator jim Kerr
(pictured below) provided us with a wealth of information about the different rooms in the center.
~*~May~"~
‘Do you see those hats in the pictures? Those were Ann Halls idea! Alana Bittner presented a beautiful
necrology service. Alana provided us with some information about the two sisters we lost this year, Gretchen
Baldwin and Vera Hauer. Linda Lipp then presented us withthe history of the Alpha Delta State Founders. It
‘was interesting! What accomplished women! Ann Hall then presented several pins and gifts to members to
mark milestones in membership e photo later inthe newslter). In adition to this new officers were
