Extracurricular Activities
How important are extracurricular activities? Educational philosophy states the
importance of teaching students to be lifelong learners. There is much more to education than
classrooms and textbooks. Extracurricular activities can provide opportunities for students to
express themselves in activities and areas depending on their interests, skills and talents. It also
teaches students to work as a unit and be team players within their community and getting
involved.
In the past several years I have enjoyed being involved in several extracurricular
activities. I have participated in service work outside of school Ive received more than 100
Student Service Learning hours. My involvement in our youth group at the church that I attended
a few years ago, where the volunteers were involved in helping young children with their
educational studies and improving the new generations knowledge at school is a wonderful
learning experience. One of my hobbies outside of school is drawing which is something I do in
my free time, I would take art classes outside of school and it helped me express who I am as a
person. Ive also after schools hours go to workouts for the Richard Montgomery Football team
which was a great way to stay connected with my peers and teachers at Richard Montgomery
high school. These activities above have thought me how to follow instructions and reflect
myself to enrich my learning experience, also teaching me responsibility, and to strengthen my
community.
My reason to enroll in university of Maryland is to achieve my degree from this
institution and take the next step and be a part of a team where I can a get my education.
