Brief Overview of the Course:


Mass transfer: Fick's law, diffusion in stationary media, additivity of resistances, diffusion
of
vapours. Convention: Principles of free and forced convection. Determinations of film
transfer
coefficients. Heat exchanger design. General diffusion and convection equations NavierStokes
equation, problems formation and solution.
Radiation: Mechanism of radiative heat transfer, shape factors, heat exchange between
radiating surface, is radiating networks. Boiling and Condensation: Different phase of
boiling,
heat transfer coefficient, condensation number, and boiler design.

Course Objectives/Goals:
The main aim of the course is to enable our students be able to design any time
of heat exchanger, and to understand the various forms of heat and mass transfer
with appropriate equations.

Modules
Week 1: Mass transfer laws and mass transfer operations.
Week 2: Diffusion in stationary media, additivity of resistances, diffusion of
vapours.
Week 3: Determinations of film transfer coefficients and heat exchanger design.
Week 4: Heat exchanger design continue.
Week 5: General diffusion and convection equations Navier-Stokes equation, .
Week 6: Problems formation and solution
Week 7: Shape factors and heat exchange between radiative surfaces networks
Week 8: MID-SEMESTER EXAMS
Week 9: Boiling and condensation

Week 10: Difference phase of Boiling


Week 11: Heat transfer coefficient for coils, pancakes, jacketed vessels and
condensation number.
Week 12: Boiler design
Week 13: REVISION
Week 14: EXAMINATION

Tutorials:Tutorials will be conducted along with every two weeks lectures. Tutorial
questions will be given out to further help the students.

Lateness to lectures not condoned

Only students that are physically present for each lecture will sign the attendant
sheet.

understanding of the course is encouraged.
