AP Exam and Math Prep Part 1 Grade: 6/10

Question 7: Which phenomenon is most likely to result in secondary succession?
A.
B.
C.
D.
E.

A volcanic eruption covers a mountainside in lava and ash

A parasite kills a bush in a grassland ecosystem
Hunters kill large numbers of deer to thin a rapidly growing population
Lions follow migrating antelope to a new section of savannah
Loggers clear-cut a forest and leave when no more trees remain

On problem number seven I put answer letter A, which was wrong. I struggled with
this question because I had to decide between answer choice A and E because I
knew one of the choices were correct but couldnt figure out which one.
After reviewing the question for a second time I now know that the correct answer is
E. I know that E is the correct answer because clearing a forest of all existing
vegetation (like trees) is the definition of secondary succession.

Question 8: This predator-prey graph tracks the wolf and moose populations in a
certain ecosystem over the past hundred years. What is most likely the carrying

capacity for wolves in this ecosystem?

A.
B.
C.
D.
E.

10
20
30
40
50

On problem number eight I put answer choice E, which was wrong. I struggled
with this question because I thought the carrying capacity was the maximum
number in a population at one time when it is really the number an ecosystem
can handle without degrading.
After reviewing the question, I now know that the correct answer choice is C. C is
the correct answer because the population of wolves can be kept at 30 without

declining but once it gets over 30 it soon comes back down to its carrying
capacity.
