Homework Folder
The student accountability sheet is located in the outside front pocket of the
folder. You should be able to check behavior and homework on a daily basis.
Homework - Monday through Thursday
All homework for Dr. Fosters class is recorded in planners on Monday.
Language Arts
This will consist of grammar and writing skills. Weekly DLR assignments will be at
or above-grade-level material and should be expected to be challenging. Please let
your student do the first draft on his/her own without assistance.
Writing
Students will practice writing throughout the year. Writing will include independent
creative journaling, opinion responses to reading texts, and
informative/explanatory writing citing evidence from research sources.
Reading
This class will be working on fifth grade ELA Standards using the sixth grade
edition of the Holt Literature reading series and accompanying materials. There
will be a focus on close reading, analyzing text, citing evidence from the text, and
collaborative discussions.
Direct vocabulary instruction will include words from the seventh grade level of
Wordly Wise, as well as some Greek & Latin root words.
Accelerated Reading Program
Independent Reading - All students have an AR goal each nine weeks. AR points
will not count as a reading grade; however, there will be daily reading time and
reward incentives provided through the classroom.
