Public

Service Announcement (PSA) Project

After spending our first semester learning about linear functions, weve spent this unit studying
exponential functions, which behave very differently.

The goals of this project are for you to:

1. Demonstrate that you deeply understand how exponential functions behave.
2. Learn about an interesting real life situation that relates to this unit.
3. Be creative while educating and inspiring others to learn more about your topic.

Due Dates:
February 23rd for blue day (but blue/black level can submit on Friday, Feb 26)
February 24th for white day (but blue/black level can submit on Monday, Feb 29)

GREEN - EVERYONE

Part 1. Create a 30 second public service announcement (PSA) that inspires your audience to
learn more details about your topic. Youll provide the details and more in Part 2.

1.
Videos must be exactly 30 seconds. Write your script carefully and practice it
several times with a stopwatch.

2.
You may use any kind of visuals, sound effects, or music you want to highlight your
message. Be creative!

3.
Make your video in iMovie. Change the size to mobile or medium before

submitting it. Your video cannot be more than 64 MB.

4.
Submit it on MOODLE. Click on the assignment and follow the links to submit.

5.
Preview your video before submitting it!! If it is too dark or if the picture is not in
the frame or the sound is unclear, you need to redo it.

Part 2. Create a written report or multi-media presentation that:

1. educates your audience about the details of your topic - make sure you cite your sources

2. uses tables, graphs, and equations to demonstrate your understanding of how
exponential functions represent your topic.

Steps:

In detail, describe an interesting, real life situation that illustrates how exponential
functions are unique and powerful.

Use your scenario to explain the special behavior of exponential functions by using
tables, graphs, and equations combined with your written or verbal explanation.

Expand your scenario to show how a change in the growth or decay factor can have a
significant long-term impact on a situation. Explain your reasoning for changing the
factor and show the impact of this change with tables, graphs, and equations. Changing
your growth/decay factor due to a factual cause is ideal, but if that isnt possible, its
okay to create a what if scenario.

* A Note about Group Work * You may work on this project with a partner if you wish, which
means you can use the same topic and make a single PSA for the team. However, each person
needs to turn in their own version of Part 2, which must clearly be each persons own work.

BLUE

Part 1: Refer to Green. The requirements for part 1 are the same for all color levels.

Part 2. In addition to the green level requirements, the scenario you create should also
illustrate the difference between exponential and linear functions. Explain and show
your understanding using tables, graphs, and equations.

BLACK

Part 1: Refer to Green. The requirements for part 1 are the same for all color levels.

Part 2. Complete the green and blue level requirements. Additionally, expand your
scenario in a way that allows you to demonstrate that you understand how logarithms
can be used to help understand real world problems.
