Security in Barranquilla is an issue on most peoples minds today. This past weekend marked an
anxious time in Barranquilla regarding the number of homicides recorded in the city, including
the homicide of photographer and audiovisual producer, Jose Montoya. Nine homicides have
occurred in the city from Friday, October 16th through Sunday, October 19th. Barranquilla is
feeling insecure and it should give the data that is available for this year so far.
From the beginning of 2015 to August 10th, there have been 250 homicides reported in the
Barranquilla metropolitan area. This is an increase from 2013 and 2014. The numbers for the first
half of 2015 were 200 homicide cases (185 men and 15 women); compared to 171 homicide
cases in the first half of 2014 (161 men and 10 women); and 157 cases in the first half of 2013
(145 men and 12 women). Even though 2014 was considered a good year for Colombia with a
30-year low number of homicides since 1984, the trend for the city of Barranquilla has been

During a meeting between the governor of Atlntico, Eduardo Verano de la Rosa, members of his
