end at 66.95, extending its

weak macro-economic data.

NEW DELHI: Government
will seek Presidential assent
for the landmark Constitution amendment bill for GST
as 16 states have ratified the
legislation, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on
Thursday.
With Odisha approving
the constitution amendment at a special assembly
session today, 50 per cent
of the states have ratified
the GST bill.
"The requisite number of
states have ratified the GST
Constitution Amendment
Bill and now it can go for
Presidential assent," Jaitley
tweeted.
Revenue
Secretary
Hasmukh Adhia said that
the government is ahead of
schedule for implementation
of GST. "Instead of 30 days
kept for this (states' ratification), it is achieved in 23
days," he said in a tweet.
The government plans to
roll out the new indirect tax
regime from April 1, 2017.
GST, the biggest tax reform
since Independence, will
create uniform market for
seamless movement of
goods and services with

NEW DELHI: The price of subsidised cooking gas (LPG)

was on Thursday hiked by about Rs 2 per cylinder, third
increase since July, while the jet fuel price was cut by 3.8
per cent.
A subsidised 14.2-kg cylinder will now cost Rs 425.06
in Delhi as against Rs 423.09 previously, according to
state- owned oil firms.
This is the third straight increase in subsidised cooking gas since July when the government decided to go in
for a small hike in rates every month to cut down subsidies
LPG rates were last hiked by Rs 1.93 per cylinder on
August 16. Prior to that rates were hiked by Rs 1.98 per

"The era of paying for
voice calls is ending,"
Ambani told the 42nd Annual General Meeting of the

Training Centre, Happy Valley from August 28-31. In
the league tournament five teams- APS Jorhat, APS
Bashistha, APS Narangi, APS Shillong and APS Happy
Valley participated with true sportsman spirit. In the

into a payment made during
Tokyo's successful bid to
host the 2020 Olympics has
found no evidence of bribery. Japanese officials have
been cleared of any wrongdoing in connection with a
2.8 million Singapore dollar
payment (1.55m euros;
$2.05m) made to a consultancy firm.
French prosecutors said
they were investigating the
sum in May this year as part
of a corruption inquiry, BBC
reported on Thursday.
But a Japanese panel
found the payment did not
break any Japanese laws.
The payment had been
linked to the son of the exworld athletics chief Lamine
Diack, who was a member of
the International Olympics
Committee at the time.
Both Lamine and his son,
Papa Massata Diack, are already under investigation in
