PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear Members,
When I started as president two years ago, I had a vision to take us at least into the next 5
years. I was hoping my leadership and mentoring would train existing members into
committee positions, recruit new members that had the skill sets and experience to teach
and push the bar upward as well as make our group a thriving, recognizable and duplicatable
entity in WNY. I truly believe we have the women in place this year to meet the demands
of our chapter members, as we continue to grow and recruit new members, follow best
practices and strive to implement our strategic plan through every committee in our
chapter. I feel very privileged to have been your president for such a great organization and
have had the opportunity to make my mark on the history of this organization.
We together have made a different in the lives of local women by all the work we have done
over the last two years. At our June party we are going to recap some of our highlights and
milestones with our slideshow. You'll be surprised all we have accomplished in two years! You can clearly see our efforts in
recruitment, marketing, publicity, our Program/Professional Development series with Niagara University, quality of our
scholarship winners and financially- we are in a terrific position to do just about anything next year.
I can't take all the credit, but what I can say is that without the support of these phenomenal women, we certainly could not have
come this far. As the transition into July occurs with our new board, I can promise you that I will be a mentor to all board and
committee heads to make sure we persevere and continue to thrive and grow in our community. We can do so much more as an
organization when we support the needs of current members and find that perfect fit and reason for other local women to join. You
will see strong social networking through our website, new video recruitment emails and newsletters, consistent publicity in all our
local papers and radio. We will have a yearly focus for our volunteer efforts and make our networking opportunities a priority for
those women in businesses. You all will enjoy the ride!
I hope you as members, and those of you out there that are not members but following ABWA monthly take advantage of all we
have to offer whether it be to sit on a committee and see its success and results, be a part of our volunteer focus for the year,
participate in the NU program series, attend our networking opportunities-including our affiliation/networking with other local
groups/associations (Niagara Rises, Niagara USA Chapter, Pine Ave Business Assoc., Town of Niagara Business Assoc; LaSalle
Business Assoc. etc) I also hope you make some friends along the way!
As I leave you this year to focus on a new journey, becoming a first time mom, I want you all to know that I enjoyed every second of
my time as your leader of ABWA. I learned valuable skills that will help me not only personally but professionally and I encourage
all our members and those considering membership to step up, have faith in yourself and try something new! Step out of your
circles to be a part of something exiting and growing-- meeting new women all over WNY and our nation. This organization has
touched my heart and I want you all to know I enjoyed every minute of it. Its challenges are the rewards, as I see some of you rise
through the ranks and do things I never thought you could or would. I'm so proud of you all and consider you all friends.
Finally, women: you need to focus on yourself, for yourself, outside of your family and don't feel guilty about it! You deserve it and
your family will thank you if you take part in a group like ABWA. Congratulations to our new board, may your journey be full of
twists and turns to challenge you individually as you guide our chapter to be one to strive for in our community and nation! Enjoy
your summer everyone and onto our next ABWA challenge!
Sincerely,
Wendy Adams

Regular chapter meetings are held the third Wednesday of every month. Meetings include networking, a full dinner, a
speaker on topics of interest to businesswomen, and a brief business meeting. Non-members are always welcome!
Business skills is accepting applications for any member that has taken or would like to take a professional
development course. We will credit back any active member that would like to take an accredited course up to $250 for
the year (first come, first served) or 1/2 the cost of their class. One rule of thumb is you must pay for this personally;
the course cannot be paid by your employer. We need a copy of payment, application filled out on the SBEMEF website
www.sbmef.org, class/course details and description, and a page on the college accreditation to be sent into national. If
your company will pay, have them reimburse after you've made payment along with ABWA's reimbursement. It's a win
win situation! Any questions please email Wendy Adams at wastridge@verizon.net. We currently we have $100 left for
anyone that wants to take a course over $100; this is good until the end of June.
A survey will be sent out to members to help select next winter’s programming.
Please send check with meal choice to Debbie Seufert at 3039 Krueger Road North Tonawanda 14120
by Thurs, June 10th!
*If you have gently used business attire, please bring to the party for Everywoman Opportunity Center.
*Please check our May edition of the newsletter for the winners’ bios!

has entered into its Building-for-Life Fundraising Campaign. This campaign has been designed to support the expansion
and implementation of life services for those in need.

june Spotlight is on
I have asked Wendy to submit her bio so that you can appreciate all that she
has accomplished both personally and professionally. As she hands over the
position to our new president, she leaves behind a great legacy of positive
change!
My parents built a home on Grand Island; I commuted to Hamburg for my junior and senior years every day. I was
very active in sports played Varsity Basketball, was 5th chair in the Hamburg Marching band, and was secretary for
DECA- Distribute Education Clubs of America. I also worked in our school store during study halls. After high
school, I attended Niagara University from 1990-1994 and worked for several different types of jobs as a student: as
a cashier at Fay's Drugs, a pizza maker and retail - working as an assistant manager for Ultra Jewelry in the Factory
Outlet Mall and Polo Factory Store at the Rainbow Center in Niagara Falls.
After college, I started my career with CTC Communications (now One Communications) as a sales rep selling
local, long distance and internet connectivity services to local business in WNY. I was a top sales rep for 2 years
when an opportunity to work for a different competitive provider was available. I took the new position as a Senior
Account Executive with PaeTec Communications, an independent telephone provider where I worked Higher
Education, Government and Healthcare as well as some larger local businesses. I sold them end to end connectivity
for phone service, telephone systems, internet connectivity as well as computers and programs through some
affiliated partnerships. As we reached 2000-01, the company was merging markets and consolidated offices where I
was downsized. I then went to work for Dunhill Staffing for a year as a recruiter working with viable candidates for
placements locally. I also met with local businesses to gain the positions they had available so we could recruit,
screen and bring them candidates. This company also did a national consolidation of offices and reduced its
company workforce.
I was then recruited for a company in Getzville, NY called Kanoodle.com (now Seevast, Inc.), which was by far the
best move I ever made in my career. I worked there from Oct 2003-May 2008 starting as a Senior account
executive selling online advertising with a variety of products. Our company partnered with a venture capital
company early 2004, which brought us new publishers and placements for the ads. I worked with some of the
largest companies on their ad campaigns and ad budgets such as E*TRADE, Experian, Lower My Bills,
Nextstudent.com, monster.com, Web MD, Bowflex, Bosley, Rush Trade, Kaplan University, ITT Tech, Devry,
University of Phoenix, Tulane, Geico, Tiger Direct, True.com, New Egg.com, Eloans, Job.com, Allied Schools,
Hoovers, EHarmony, Drexel University, Tumbplay, Edmunds, Reunion.com, Classmates.com, Forex.com and
Phillip Investments to name a few clients of mine.

Page 18
I was then promoted in 2007 to National Agency Account Executive where I met with national ad agency brand
teams promoting our contextual and new banner product specifically through face to face meetings in NYC, Boston,
Philly, including all of Southern California from Orange County south and Arizona. I met with the Digital media
directors and their teams handling major brands such as GM, Weight Watchers, Proctor and Gamble, John Deer,
Wachovia, HSBC, Travelocity, Disney, Fisher Investments, Dunkin Donuts, Hoovers, GE Interest Plus, Pfizer, XM
Radio, Lending Tree, Claritin, French's Foods, Dannon, Schering-Plough, Amtrak, Goodyear to name a few. We
discussed our products and services and proposed recommendations to the group to be placed and included on their
RFP list or incremental testing budget in the near future. In late 2007, two divisions of our company were sold and
along with that left the directors of the company. We lost a lot of the placements with the publishers which in turn
led to decreased volume in sales and support from our company. I decided it was time to move on and found this
great company called J Carter Marketing, out of Nesconset, NY.
I started at J Carter Marketing in June of 2008 and have been working for this company ever since as a Sales
Manager selling banner and pre-roll video products on the national TV news and newspaper publishers: ABC, NBC,
CBS, Fox News ect. During this tough economic climate I have stuck to my sales and presentation skills, pushing
the benefits, terrific customer service and products as our strong points. It has been very challenging but I have
enjoyed working for this small company with such wonderful, supportive people.
I am married to Jim Adams, from Newfane, NY. We live in Wheatfield and have been married for 6 years. We are
going to be new, first time parents in June and are very excited! Jim is a mechanical engineer for ATSI Engineering
Inc, of Amherst where he currently is contracted to work at Praxair, Inc. Jim has been with ATSI for 15 years and
has been working contract at Praxair for the last year. We enjoy spending time with friends and family, boating,
camping, watching movies. I enjoy decorating, cooking, and ironing - it relaxes me and gives me time to think!!
I joined ABWA in 1998 where I was recruited by a former member and president, Margaret Sheusi who is a
financial advisor. I have served on most of the committees and have been selected as Local Top 5 Business Woman,
Local Woman of the Year, National District IV Top 10 Candidate, Secretary and now President. I can't tell you
how many times I have used skills from a course I took through ABWA or in working/volunteering on a
committee. It has allowed me to become a better presenter, a better sales person because of being in ABWA and
learning from my peers and former leaders of this organization. I very much enjoyed my term as president and felt
it was an honor to service this community and to help other women succeed personally and professionally.
Although my time as president has come to a close, I will remain active to help the chapter reach their goals along
with the new board of directors. Thank you members for all your support this year and I hope this insight into my
background will encourage you to become active with our chapter and reach your potential!!

one, along with your submission to mitchie764@roadrunner.com
