Lights fade up on a YOUTH GROUP. GUIDANCE COUNSELOR is
standing at the podium, with ENSEMBLE, ISAAC, RILEY, and
JONATHAN in the audience. Jonathan and Isaac are towards
the back, the rest of the congregation has their heads
lowered in prayer.
GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
Remember, no youth group next week,
or the week after. Now...
Counselor looks over at Isaac.
GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
Isaac, did you want to say a few
words?
Isaac doesnt react, staring blankly at the ground
GUIDANCE COUNSELOR

Jonathan taps Isaac and gestures towards the podium.

faces.

The assembled youth start to disperse, some stopping to
chat, some helping themselves to snacks set up on a
table. Isaac and Jonathan start to walk towards the door.
RILEY
(From Across Room)
Isaac!
Isaac and Jonathan look back at Riley
JONATHAN
Ill be in the car.

Ill only be a sec.
Isaac tosses Jonathan a set of keys. Jonathan walks towards
the door but is stopped by the Guidance Counselor, they
begin to talk. Isaac crosses to Riley

Awkward Beat
RILEY
Well if you ever need someone to

Riley places her hand on Isaacs arm as she says this.
RILEY

Isaac, who had been looking at Rileys arm, snaps back to
reality.
ISAAC

Riley holds out her hand for Isaacs phone, then puts in her
number.

Riley hands Isaac his phone back then starts to leave.

She pauses for a moment.
RILEY

happened. He looks at his phone, smiles, then heads towards
the door.

support group I run down at the

The GUIDANCE COUNSELOR sits in a circle of chairs with the
ENSEMBLE. Isaac and Jonathan walk in, late.
GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
I was wondering if you guys would
show up! Please have a seat, were
just chatting.
Jonathan grabs a chair and joins the circle. Isaac follows,
hesitantly.
GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
Ok, where were we?
ALEX
(Sheepishly)

GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
Im sorry to interrupt. Please

Alex is obviously put off by guidance counselors
condescending attitude.
ALEX

every day is a battle. This helps
them, lets them put down their
defenses, feel safe for once. For
some of them this is the only place
they feel comfortable.

Mental illnesses dont really get
fixed magically Isaac. All I can
do is try to give you a safe
environment and keep you on the

Isaac just looks at her.

you and you wouldnt pick up. Your
mom said youve barely been home
this week, what happened?
ISAAC
I dont know.
RILEY

without warning for a week and your

ISAAC
