The Power of the Gospel

WELCOME
BEN:
Welcome to all who are in worship today, especially our Guest Preacher,
Pastor Tuhina Rasche, our visiting Bishops and Region Coordinators, and
our guest choir, Voices of Praise. Thank you for the work you do and for
being with us today.
We begin our worship with a brief order of Confession and Forgiveness.
Please rise.
CONFESSION and FORGIVENESS
PASTOR JEFF:
Blessed be the holy Trinity, + one God,
who forgives all our sin, whose mercy endures forever.
Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no
secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy
Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we
confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from
all unrighteousness.
Most merciful God,
we confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We
have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done
and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole
heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your
Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so
that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your
holy name. Amen

PASTOR JEFF: God, who is rich in mercy, loved us even when we were dead in
sin, and made us alive together with Christ. By grace you have
been saved. In the name of + Jesus Christ, your sins are
forgiven. May Almighty God strengthen you with power
through the Holy Spirit, that Christ may live in your hearts
through faith. Amen

PASTOR JEFF: We sing our Gathering Hymn, All Earth is Hopeful, #266.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

PASTOR TUHINA: The holy Gospel according to Luke. Glory to you, O Lord.

GOSPEL

Luke 18:1-8

Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose
heart. 2 He said, In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor
had respect for people. 3 In that city there was a widow who kept coming to him
and saying, Grant me justice against my opponent. 4 For a while he refused;
but later he said to himself, Though I have no fear of God and no respect for
anyone, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice, so
that she may not wear me out by continually coming. 6 And the Lord said,
Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 And will not God grant justice to his
chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them?
8 I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them. And yet, when the Son of Man
comes, will he find faith on earth?
PASTOR TUHINA:

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Please be seated.

APOSTLES CREED
BEN: Let us join our hearts together and confess what we believe,
using the words of the Apostles Creed, as found on pg 5 of your Bulletin.

I believe in God, the Father/Mother almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.*
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen
SHARING of the PEACE
BEN:
The peace of the Lord be with you always. And also with you.
Please share a sign of that peace with one another.
MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES
BEN: (Take the microphone and begin. Open up to congregation.

PRAYERS of INTERCESSION - (The congregation may remain seated)

BEN: As the Holy flames in this Chapel rise to the Lord, so do the prayers of our
hearts. Set free by the truth of Gods gracious love, we pray for the church, the world,
and all of Gods good creation.
Protector of all, you guard your people from evil. Help your church to provide
sanctuary for all who are in need.
Hear us, O God.
Your mercy is great.
Creator of all, you made the sun, the moon, and the stars. Bless efforts to restore clean
air, that your pure light may shine in the world.
Hear us, O God.
Your mercy is great.

Keeper of all life, you provide justice for the nations. Call upon leaders and judges,
lawyers and advocates to proclaim your justice where injustice rules.
Hear us, O God.
Your mercy is great.
Nurturing healer, you reach out to those who have lost heart. Ease their suffering,
relieve their pain, comfort the dying, and calm the troubled (especially).
Hear us, O God.
Your mercy is great.

God of unfailing love, you are our first and best teacher. Guide all who teach in
schools, homes, churches, seminaries, and in public life. Let your love shine forth in
their teaching.
Hear us, O God.
Your mercy is great.

For who or what else do the people of this congregation pray:
Hear us, O God.
Your mercy is great.

Holy One, you bless all those who cry out to you. We give thanks for the persistent
witness of your blessed saints who now rest in your just and righteous presence.
Hear us, O God.
Your mercy is great.

PASTOR JEFF:

Into your hands, faithful God, we place ourselves and our

prayers, spoken and unspoken, trusting in your mercy;
through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen
Please rise.

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING

PASTOR JEFF: It is indeed right, our duty and our joy,

that at all times and in all places we give you thanks and praise:
Holy Spirit, heavenly King, almighty and eternal God.
You formed us in your image and breathed into us the breath of life.
When we turned away, and our love failed, your love remained steadfast.
You delivered us from captivity,
made covenant to be our sovereign God,
and spoke to us through your prophets.
And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven,
we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

HOLY,
HOLY,
HOLY

WORDS OF INSTITUTION
PASTOR JEFF:

Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when he was betrayed,

took the bread, and when he had given thanks,
he broke it and gave it to his disciples and said:
Take; eat; this is my body which is given for you.
Do this in remembrance of me.
In the same way he also took the cup after the supper,
and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them saying,
Drink of it, all of you.
This cup is the New Testament in my blood,
shed for you for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. Let us pray:

LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father/Mother, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we
forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the
kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

BEN: After receiving Communion, you are invited to visit any one of the reflection/prayer
stations while meditative, instrumental music is played. Remaining in your seat is also an
option. Use this time to let the Spirit connect to your inner, center of peace. When you hear
the singing of our final hymn begin, please make your way back to your seats.
PASTOR JEFF: Our bread is gluten-free, and our wine is alcohol-free. The ushers will guide
you to the table. Come, for all is now ready, and ALL are welcome.

Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the hillsfrom where will my help come?

My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.
He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in
from this time on and forevermore.
