Solution
In present condition height to be retained was about 12m and
available base width was about 4m. Soil nailing is a technique
where either natural soil or existing fill material is reinforced by
the insertion of slender tension carrying elements called soil
nails. Soil nails are made of metallic or polymeric material and
may be installed into a pre- drilled ole and then grouted, drilled
and grouted simultaneously, or inserted using a displacement
technique. A hard flexible or soft facing may be used at the
surface of the slope. Soil nailing with Gabion facia was found
to be one of the best and suitable solution. Frictional soil as
structural fill was to be filled up in the gap between Gabion
facia and Vertical cut. Concrete base was provided at the
bottom of Gabion facia.

Detailed Lacing
Requires smaller ROW than ground anchors as soil nails are typically shorter;
Less disruptive to traffic and causes less environmental impact compared
There is no need to embed any structural element below the bottom of excavation
Rapid installation with less construction material
Overhead construction requirements are smaller is increasing each year.
Relatively flexible
Performs well during seismic events owing to flexibility of the system.
