VIII ATOMS & THE PERIODIC TABLE

ATOMIC THEORIES

In the early 1900s the concept of the atom was not widely accepted
We will look at the development of atomic theory ( & models)
theory: formulating ideas to explain observations
model: visualize / simplify abstract ideas
We will then look at how the composition of the atom helps to further
understand isotopes, organization of the periodic table, nature /
behaviour of elements and chemical bonding.

The following website has many powerpoints, activities and videos that will be
very helpful understanding some of the more abstract concepts in this unit.
