INDUSTRY comparisons

Womens average pay lagged behind mens in 11 of 15 industries represented on


our List. Though, some things did skew results. In engineering-related groups, for
instance, there werent any women executives to compare. Only one hospitality and
one legal association were included, and thanks to them both having a woman CEO,
those were two of the industries where women seemed to earn more on average.

Most of the women executives were at mid-size organizations, with revenue between $45 million and $100 million. But womens
compensation was comparatively worse in those size groups, especially on the lower-revenue end of the spectrum. Women at
the smallest and the largest associations (either less than $45 million or more than $300 million in revenue) earned the most
money compared with men, even out-earning them on average.

Women executives seem to be flocking to


Maryland-based organizations, where they had the
largest representation geographically and the
lowest pay gap, at about 7 percent less than their
male counterparts. At D.C. and Virginia associations,
women executives earned about 22 percent and 20
percent less, respectively.
