Sunday, October 16, 2016 - Twenty-first Sunday After Pentecost.

For every Sunday of 2016, the official United Church

of Christ calendar lists recommended Scripture
readings. On Sunday, October 16th they include
Luke 18:1-8.
Warren Wiersbe has written that The ability to calm
your soul and wait before God is one of the most
difficult things in the Christian Life.
Hes certain right about the difficulty of waiting on
God. Yet the Bible is filled with instruction about
waiting on the Lord, and it is one of the most
important lessons a Christian can and MUST learn
about prayer.
The following is a message from Jesus, shared as a
parable. We are encouraged to be persistent in
prayer as we wait for Gods answer and as we
wait for His return.
One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give
up. 2 There was a judge in a certain city, he said, who neither feared God nor cared about people. 3 A
widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy. 4 The
judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, I dont fear God or care about people, 5 but
this woman is driving me crazy. Im going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out
with her constant requests!
6 Then

the Lord said, Learn a lesson from this unjust judge. 7 Even he rendered a just decision in the
end. So dont you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and
night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son
of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?

Paraments and altar linens remain GREEN.

Green
symbolizes the renewal of vegetation and generally of living
things and the promise of new life.

A Peek at the Sunday Sermon

The Sunday sermon
Walk of the River.

is titled

If you have ever visited San

Antonio (home of the Alamo) you
probably know about their famous
River Walk.
Years ago the city established a
park along the San Antonio River.
There are a number of restaurants
and little shops you can visit. Its
a delightful place to be during a
hot, Texas day!
Gods Word has something to say about rivers, blessings, and the Christian
experience.
I hope you can join us on Sunday for a spiritual River Walk through the book of
Ezekiel. It will be a soul-cleansing, soul-refreshing event! In preparation for our time
together, read Ezekiel 47:1-9 and come expecting a blessing!

See you at 10:00 AM!

Sunday, October 23, 2016 Pulpit Exchange

A little research into the history of the United Church of Christ reveals that the UCC
churches have long had a tradition of taking part in a pulpit exchange. Its a very simple
idea; two churches agree on a date and then get rid of one of their ministers for a Sunday
morning and send them in the direction of another UCC church.
Its always an enjoyable experience; not only because its an opportunity to hear Gods
Word preached by someone from a different Christian background, but its also a good
demonstration of the Christian unity which exists in the United Church of Christ.
The next preacher swap takes place on Sunday, October 23, 2016, and we at Dearborn
Congregational Church are looking forward to welcoming our old friend, The Rev. Dr.
Geoffrey Drutchas. Rev. Drutchas is the pastor at St. Paul UCC in Taylor.
Going the other way, we temporarily say goodbye to Pastor Kren who is preaching at St.
Paul UCC. Everything returns to normal the following Sunday!
