SUZANNA SHKRELI IS WITHIN STRIKING DISTANCE OF MIKE BISHOP

Macomb County prosecutor Suzanna Shkreli is within striking distance of Mike Bishop, trailing him by just
6 points (41% to 47%, with 11% undecided). Shkreli has made serious gains since announcing her
campaign in July.
Shkrelis support is growing as more voters become familiar with her. Her successful career as a
prosecutor is a boon to her profile in the district. Shkreli leads by 13 points among modeled
independents, by 14 points among young voters, and earns the support of 1 in 4 modeled Republicans.
Shkreli has room for further growth: undecided voters support Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump for
president by 24 points and a generic Democrat for Congress over a generic Republican by 16 points.
There is every reason to believe that Shkrelis standing will only improve, as these results come before the
leaked Access Hollywood audio that revealed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump making
lewd and suggestive comments about women, and before the presidential debate on October 9th. A
recently released DCCC national online survey conducted after both of these events found that the
political environment appears to be shifting in the favor of Democrats; while Hillary Clinton holds a 12point lead in a national head-to-head matchup with Donald Trump, Democrats hold a 7-point edge on
Republicans on a national generic ballot (49% Democrat/42% Republican). These results are consistent
with other public polling released since the debate.

VOTERS PREFER A GENERIC DEMOCRAT, CLINTON OVER TRUMP

Democrats lead Republicans by 2 points in the generic Congressional ballot (46% to 44%, with 10%
undecided).
At the presidential level, Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 7 points in a three-way vote (44% to
37%, with 10% supporting Gary Johnson and 9% undecided) and by 6 points in a two-way vote (47% to
41%, with 12% undecided). Trump continues to be extremely unpopular in the district, with 62% of
voters holding an unfavorable view of him, and his net unfavorability is more than double Clintons.
The majority of the district approves of President Obamas job performance, with 52% of voters holding
a favorable view of him.
The data in this memo is from a survey of 535 likely MI-08 2016 general election voters conducted by the
DCCC on October 3, 2016. Respondents information came from the voter file and respondents were
interviewed over the phone via either a live or IVR (robo) survey. The margin of error is 4.2%.
