(b) Find the angular strain at point 1,0,1 (m) between the directions 1 3 1 3 1 3

and 1 0 0.
2. Find the principal values of the linear strains and the corresponding principal directions at
points 1,1,1 (m) and 1,0,1 (m) in the strain field described in problem 1.
3. The strain tensor field in a solid is described in problem-1. Find the location of a point on
the unit sphere x 2 y 2 z 2 1 at which the linear strain has the highest value among all
points on the sphere.
4. The strain tensor field in a solid is described in problem-1, Find the volumetric strain at
points (1,1,1) (m) and (2,2,2) (m).
5. For the following strain tensor, determine (a) the strain invariants (b) the principal linear
strains and their directions.
