16. Briefly explain the difference between an explicit constraint and an implicit constraint.
An explicit constraint is a written or spoken statement, made by the customer or company, about the
function or form. An implicit constraint is understood or hidden.

17. When designing a new electric coffee maker, we learn that our customers require the coffee
maker to produce hot, delicious coffee. Define an engineering characteristic to quantify this
customer requirement. What units could it have? What limits might be imposed?
