Methods and Procedures
This chapter contains the research design and the methodology used in the
conduct of this research. Each of the methods used was presented with the data. It
incorporated the sampling technique, sources of data, the instrument utilized to gather
data, as well as the statistical tools employed in processing the data. This chapter
shows how the researcher came to the necessary data for this study, and how these
data were analyzed, interpreted and presented in the easiest way possible.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
A research methodology used for this study are: survey a printed paper that
being distributed to 10 random people per kilometer of a 5 kilometer distance
parameter;
blueprint
hard
copy

happenings in the said road. These survey serves as a tool in collecting and analyzing
information from the random individuals. The requested hard copy of the project is used
for comparison of the actual road from the plan. These are a key tool for conducting
and applying basic social science research methodology. The questions on the survey
are as follows:

All the data collected from the questionaires were recorded and tallied to be used
in analyzing the results. An actual site visit was also conducted during the completion of
the survey to random people. The letter that was made by the researchers is also one
of the reason for the completion the research. The content of the letter are as follows:
District Engineer
DPWH District II, Region III
August 26, 2016
Sir:
Greetings!
We would like to request a hard or soft copy of a plan of highway which
currently has a failure around Marilao area. It would be as a part of our assessment of
such roads, for the completion of our course requirement.
We hope for your kind and immediate response. Thank you and God
bless!
Very Truly Yours,
The comparison of approved plan to actual was also established during the visit in the
site, the span, width and thickness was measured in actual.
RESEARCH DESIGN
This study utilized the descriptive survey in order to achive the purpose of this
study which is to determine, identify road failures and reccomend possible solutions in
Manila North Road also known as McArthur Highway. It is descriptive in a sense that the
data obtained were analyzed and described. The researchers group used a survey
questionaire as their instrument. Based on the result of the survey conducted, the group
enables to determine the details of this study. Tables and figures were used to provide
clearer understanding of the data presented as answers to the problem study.
The researchers group also asked the Department of Public Works and
Highways to have a copy of the design of the road in a form of a letter. it helps the group
to have a clearer idea on what would be the possible reasons of failure in the road.
Does the design fits to the area? Does the materials used is correct? Some possible
questions that might linger in the researchers mind.
RESEARCH TOOLS
The researchers prepared a questionaire to determine the views of the residence
along the selected parameter in Manila North Road (from Meycauyan to Bocaue,
Bulacan) regarding with what the usual things happen in the road, like; accidents,
flooding, and the different types of vehicle passing trough the road that might be a
reason of road failures. The researchers subject were asked to choose their preffered
response by checking the number option based on their personal experience and
perception along the given area. Upon conducting the survey the rearchers group took
advantage to identify the different failures in the road by means of taking pictures,
videos and and actual measuring. The group also find time to compare the given plan to
the actual one. Different errors in the construction of the road would be noticed during
tabulation of the gathered data and with the result of the actual inspection/ visit.
