From: Jeanette Peebles (j_peebles@western.com)

To: Vanessa Burkowitz (vani@busmail.com)
Subject: Surprise
Date: March 4, 2:59 P.M.
Vanessa,
I finally got a car. As you know, Ive been looking at cars for about three months, and Ive had a hard
time finding something thats reasonably priced.
Finding reliable used cars is very difficult. Although the price is good, the car might not be in the
best shape, as you saw when we test drove the GXT 382.
I thought I wouldnt find a good used car at a price I could afford.
The funny thing is I was having such a bad day today, I decided that I would walk home. During my
walk, I happened to glance over at some cars in the lot as I was passing by, and there it was --- my
new car. Thats right, I bought a new car: the GXT 2000. Its not as big as the GXT 382, but its new,
safe, and nice. It has more options, and of course, it has fewer miles since its new.
Its actually somewhat out of my price range, but I was able to finance the car at a low interest rate.
Ill have to cut my spending to make the monthly payments, but I dont think that it will be a
problem.
I would love to show you the car. Why dont we meet this weekend and drive to the coast? The
weather is supposed to be nice.
Please let me know what you think soon.

Dear Matthew,
I am sorry to hear that the dogs barking is disturbing your sleep. I visited the apartment and spoke to
Nuri, the tenant, about the problem early last month and thought the problem was resolved.
However, recently I have received complaints from other tenants. Nuri works late nights, so the dog
is left alone.
She has promised to take care of her dog. I warned her that she would have to leave the building or
get rid of the dog should further problems arise. Please let me know if the dog keeps you up again.
You can also call me on my mobile number at any time of the day.
Again, I am sorry about the problem and assure you it will not continue.
Good luck with your exams.

Sheila

Adams Reports Third Quarter Loss

By William Baxter
Business Daily Reporter
Adams Co. reported an 8.7 percent drop in profits for the third quarter and cut forecasts for the
fourth quarter and year, citing worries for the upcoming holiday shopping season.
High discounts for unsold merchandise and overstock hurt the companys profits in addition to
record-high oil prices and the steadily declining dollar.
The slowing economy and low consumer confidence is making retailers such as Adams. Co. rethink
their holiday marketing campaigns and adjust accordingly. Were going to concentrate on thrifty
consumers who really watch their spending, said Karl Stein, Chief Executive of Adams Co. We
realize the end of the year will be difficult for retailers, so we are adjusting accordingly.
Other retailers Home Mart and Savers Plus warned of lower-than-expected sales. This is after record

A Guide to Sleeping Better

By Sandy Connelly
Westerberg Daily Herald Columnist
Q: Ive tried everything, but I cant get to sleep. What are some things I can do?
--Anne Smith(Columbus, OH)
The following is a reprinted article from last year featuring ways to get a better night of sleep. I have
had several requests from readers to reprint it, so here it is.
Not getting a good nights sleep can be detrimental to the following work or school day. Although
not everybody has problems sleeping, we all have experienced insomnia at one time or another.
Here are some tips to help you get a better night of sleep and fight insomnia.
Choose regular bedtime and wake up at the same time every day. Our bodies enjoy routines. Just
as it is healthier to eat around the same time every day, it is better to mold our sleeping habits
around a schedule as well. The best time to sleep is from 10 P.M. to 6 A.M., when your body
usually repairs itself.
Dont go to bed hungry. When you are hungr y, your stomach makes noises, you feel
uncomfortable, and all you can think about is food. Try not to skip meals before you sleep, and if
there is a time where you dont have time to eat, its good to drink some warm milk so your
stomach is not empty.
Dont consume caffeine around bedtime. Caffeine, which is found in many soft drinks, teas,
chocolate, and of course coffee, often keeps people awake. It also speeds up a persons system
and keeps the body from fully relaxing.
Dont watch TV or read in bed. Go to bed when you are ready to sleep. This trains your body to
associate sleeping with your bed. Doing other activities will also keep your mind focused on the
activity and keep you awake instead of relaxing.
Do not take naps during the day. It may seem like you need to take a nap, but in fact, a nap can
take away from your nights sleep. It also trains your body to expect a nap, when you should be
awake.
Avoid thinking about work or stressful situations while in bed. This is a leading cause of insomnia.
Why should you stress when you are trying to relax? Worrying about stressful situations can only
make matters worse by depriving your body of sleep.
Check your room environment. Make sure the room temperature is comfortable and its dark.
Also, turn the clock around when trying to sleep. Theres nothing worse than watching the time
pass by when youre trying to sleep.
Sandy Connellys daily column will return tomorrow with a new subject. Submit your questions and
comments to sandyconnelly@westerbergdailyherald.com.

Subject: Camping trip
Date: April 28, 3:42 P.M.
Hello everybody,
It looks like our little trip might get rained on, but I think it will be fine. I just want to make sure we
are prepared for any type of weather.
It should be warm enough to go rafting, even though it might rain on Wednesday. Either way, we
would get wet. If it rains, the water might be a little rougher than usual, so we should be careful
about that. Otherwise, if you would rather stay in the cabin, we can play some board games and
make a nice dinner.
Dont forget to pack boots or shoes that you can wear in the rain. It looks like it might rain on
Thursday. Lets prepare for the worst and hope for the best. If it doesnt rain, Id like to go hiking.
Overall, it looks like the weather will not be cold.
Ill see you at my house on Sunday morning.
Regards,
Amy
