X-rays can be taken from four angles to visualize different sinus areas: Caldwell's projection views the frontal sinus and ethmoid air cells from the back to front; the lateral projection shows the sphenoid, maxillary, frontal and ethmoid sinuses from the side; Water's projection focuses on the maxillary sinuses; and the submento vertical projection targets the sphenoid sinus. Diagrams demonstrate the positioning of the skull for each x-ray view.

Conventional x-rays (radiographs) can be taken from four angles or views,
known as : -
Caldwell's projection: posterior anterior (PA) projection provides good
visualization of the frontal sinus and ethmoid air cells. Lateral projection: for the sphenoid, maxillary sinuses, frontal and ethmoid sinuses. Water's projection: for the maxillary sinuses. Submento vertical projection: for the sphenoid sinus.
