Method
This involves using the Multiple Choice Quiz QuizMaker, available from the Assessments menu. See also
KnowledgePresenter University, Guides Section, Multiple Choice Quiz Assessment white paper.
See KnowledgePresenter University / White Papers Section, and select the Creating the Perfect Assessment White
Paper. See the section on freeform text entry questions.
See KnowledgePresenter University / White Papers Section, and select the Creating the Perfect Assessment White
Paper. See the section on drag and drop questions.
See KnowledgePresenter University / White Papers Section, and select the Creating the Perfect Assessment White
Paper. See the section on true/false questions.
See KnowledgePresenter University / White Papers Section, and select the Creating the Perfect Assessment White
Paper. See the section on targets and target marker questions.
Select the object, and select the Assessments / Object Question Type / Drag and Drop command.
Yes open a multiple choice quiz template, and insert some steps before the first step in the lesson (Steps / Insert
Steps command). You can add as many steps as you like, and put on them whatever you like (i.e. a movie) but keep in
mind that when exporting as a quiz, all scoring except that included in the quiz is removed.
Yes, (see above), or just add the quiz as a series of extra steps at the end, or at any point in a lesson. However, we
recommend that learning and testing be kept in separate lessons this makes them much more reusable, and easier to
handle.
Can I have two drag and drop questions on the same step?
This is fine. Create the quiz questions in Excel. Once you have created the quiz data files in Excel, you have to open the
QuizMaker in KP (now found in the Assessments menu), and use the Open command to import the Quiz file into the
QuizMaker. Then it just becomes a standard quiz file you can edit and incorporate into quizzes. See
http://www.knowledgepresenter.com/kpuniversity/2005/helpv2005/Quizzes/quizformat.html for details on the quiz
format.
Use Tools / Export and Convert Objects / Export Instruction Text as Word Document.
Use File / Export Lesson or Presentation / Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation. Note the KP-Photo, available
from the Add-ins menu, also allows you to import a PowerPoint presentation, and export it as a Flash file.
Tasks
Make a complete copy of the larger lesson (using the File / Save As / Pack and Go command. Then open this
document, and unneeded steps, by moving to the first step you want to remove, and selecting the Steps / Remove
Steps / Multiple Steps command. Then select the steps you want to remove. Once you have done this, use the File /
Save As / Pack and Go command again to save this new lesson. Open the original lesson again, and repeat the
process, this time removing a different set of steps. You will shortly have a series of lessons created from the one original
file.
See KnowledgePresenter University / White Papers Section, and select the Using KnowledgePresenter in a
Multiuser Environment white paper.
Create your template, and then select the File / Save As / As a Template command.
Select the object(s) you want to use in another lesson, and then select the Objects / Save as Library Object
command. Give the object a filename. Then open the new lesson, and select the Insert / Insert Library Object
command. Select the library object you previously saved, and the object(s), with all properties, will be inserted into the
new lesson.
The main delay in opening lessons in KP is the number of objects in the lesson, rather than the number of steps. So, be
frugal with objects, dont create unnecessary objects, dont make lessons too long, etc.
Select the object, and then select the Objects / Object Preloading / Load on Demand, or Stream command. The
selected object will then load as directed, regardless of what settings are selected when the lesson is exported.
Select the original image in KnowledgePresenter, and then select the Insert / Picture / Replace Current Image
command.
Use the Add-ins menu to select the KP-Simulator command. This program is designed for this purpose.
Use the Add-ins menu to select the KP-DocumentaryMaker command. This program is designed for this purpose.
KnowledgePresenter allows you to define certain movement (Objects / Movement), animation (Objects /
Animation), and display transitions (Display Transitions from the Object Properties or bottom toolbar) to objects.
Otherwise, you can import animated GIF files for extra movement, without requiring plugins to play them back. See
http://www.animationfactory.com for some great examples.
This is impossible with browser based delivery all audio and video requires some plugin to play it back. Flash is
probably the most widely installed and most compatible format for video and audio, but Windows Media, QuickTime, and
Real will also work.
Tasks
Text Objects
Create a text object, with the following properties in the text window:
* Ensure Instruction Text Box is not selected.
* Ensure Create as Image is not selected.
* Ensure Antialias is not selected.
In this text box, enter something like this:
<MARQUEE WIDTH=100% BEHAVIOR=SCROLL LOOP=3>This is an example of a scrolling
marquee...</MARQUEE>
While this will not preview as a scrolling text in KP, as soon as you preview the lesson, the text within the MARQUEE
codes will do exactly what you are after once the lesson is previewed or exported. For more information about the
marquee code, and its options, see http://www.mountaindragon.com/html/marquee.htm.
When you create or edit a text box, ensure the following options are selected in the text window:
* Ensure Create as Image is not selected.
* Ensure Antialias is not selected.
* Ensure the text is left aligned horizontally.
* Ensure the text is top aligned vertically.
If there is more text than can fit in the text object, the text object will automatically scroll when played back in a
browser. Note that Netscape 4.x does not support this feature. All current version of Netscape, and versions less than
about five years old will support this feature.
Double-click on the text to edit it, and select the Paragraph Animation toolbar button from the Text Window.
Double-click the text to edit it, and select the Create as Image option.
Use the KP-Learner Manager system to do this. This is available from the Add-Ins menu.
This is supported by default, if the lesson contains no scoring. If the lesson is a test, or contains scoring, then it will
always restart at the beginning. This is by design to discourage cheating. So if you want bookmarking to be supported in
a lesson, ensure there are no scored objects in the lesson.
Use the Insert / User Feedback Form command. This will insert a text object that the user can enter text into when
the lesson is running. The text entered by the user into one of these forms is stored as a comment.
This involves using Objectives. This allows you to create, name and weight any interactive scored object or question in a
lesson. Use the Assessments / Create/Edit Objectives command, after you have created your lesson.
Use the View / Loading View command to move to loading view, and import or create an object. Alternatively, select
the object in Timeline View, and select the Object / Objects Appears on Steps command. Ensure the Object
Appears in Loading View option is selected.
Use the View / Startup View command to move to startup view, and import or create an object. Alternatively, select
the object in Timeline View, and select the Object / Objects Appears on Steps command. Ensure the Object
Appears in Startup View option is selected.
Use the View / Loading Indicator / Select a new Loading Indicator command.
Tasks
I want to hide the loading indicator.
Use the Edit / Custom Message Boxes command to select a message box type. Alternatively, consider using groups
so that you can totally customize the appearance and behaviour of message boxes.
I want the mouse cursor to change when the mouse moves over an
object.
Use the View / Toolbars / Object Properties Toolbar command to show the Object Properties toolbar. Then
select the object, and select the Cursors button from this toolbar.
Use the View / Show Objects of Type command, and select the type of object you want to locate.
Show the Groups toolbar (View / Toolbars / Groups Toolbar). Click on the icon next to the group name you want to
find out which objects are in. Select the Show Members of this Group command.
Use the Insert / Arrows / Lines command. Then draw a line. You can double-click on this line to adjust width and
color, and whether or not an arrow head is on the line. You will be able to adjust the angle of the arrow using the
mouse.
Canvas
I want to change the size, color, or background bitmap for the
canvas.
Use the Canvas / Canvas Layout and Properties command, and select the Lock Canvas Markers command.
Select the first object, and select the Draw Markers Around Current Object button in the Timeline toolbar. This will
draw a series of markers around the selected object. Then move to the step where the second object is displayed, and
use the mouse to move the object close to the markers. This object should snap to the markers for precise placement. If
the object does not snap to the markers, select the Canvas / Canvas Layout and Properties command, and select
the Objects Snap to Canvas Markers option.
Use the View / Toolbars / Object Properties Toolbar command to show the Object Properties toolbar. Then
select the object, and select the Display Transitions button from this toolbar. You can also select the On and Off
Display Transition buttons from the bottom toolbar.
