INTRODUCTION NETBALL

CONTENT
Teacher directed discussion about the game of netball and student
background in the sport.

Teacher demo / explain various passes


Student practice in pairs over varying distances x10
- straight/Chest pass
- Bounce pass- right and left hand
- Lob pass- right and left hand
10 snatches- thrower passes the ball to any point near the catcher
who must snatch the ball in without moving their feet.
10 surprises- as for snatcher, catcher can now move their feet

Run and pass the ball up the court (avoid stepping).

MODIFIED GAME:
Dog & Bone - Pass 3 then shoot
Teacher demo using students followed by student play under
supervision of teacher.
Warm Up: Split students into 3 groups over 3 courts. Give designated shooting
end. On whistle shout a position and last person there from each group is out.
Game ends when all positions are covered/all out
Teacher demo shooting technique. Student Practice without defender in pairs
from various positions in the circle

Teacher demo defending technique. Student practice in skills above in pairs


with defender from various positions around circle.

Receiving & Shooting

GAME PLAY
Rules: Step in/out on a shot
Shooting Defence

GAME PLAY: Students play and referee 2 short halves. Must pass to every
player before shot.

LEADING

Leading/ passing/receiving combination focus on accurate pass to


player on the move
Timed leading
leading/passing and receiving drill:
- Students form a line of 6-7, with one person as a thrower. The
thrower passes to player A, running to the right who leads and
catches the ball, throws back and returns to the end of the line.
Players should land on outside foot. Complete drill leading both
ways.

Side line multiple sports game


4 teams numbered off and positioned along side lines. 3 passes
before shooting for a goal. Score 2 points for a goal and 1 point for
hitting goal ring.

Pre-Season Scratch Matches

Warm up: Directed by coaches


Game Play: Sports Board brief class on requirements for organisation of
game day.
Scratch matches fixtured by Sports Board
Ensure duty team requirements are fulfilled and explained

Warm Up Rats and Rabbits (progress lying, sitting, squatting, standing) and
stretches

BALL WORK

MOVING TO SPACE
GAME PLAY-Rules: Stepping,
3 secs, contact

Ball work:
In pairs with 1 ball between them players complete:
right/left short passes
right/left over a third passes
side to side passes
side to side high, bounce and roll passes
Teacher demo drills followed by student practice in groups of 6:
Line Passing.

MODIFIED GAME:
2/3 Court Play (4 players/third) Round Robin
Pass to each player = 1 point

Rules: 3 feet, positional play,
obstruction, Toss up, offside,

MODIFIED GAME: Half Court Game with positions. Modified Scoring,


Rotate Positions. Teacher explains positions.
- Students write/illustrate positions on netball court from whiteboard,
in/out.
