1.0 Purpose
The purpose of this Method Statement is to set the details of the
Piling Works steps and precautions to be taken in order to carry
out the job safely and professionally.

A barrier will be provided
around the
area to keep
people out of the
area.
b) Setting Out
The axis of each pile will be located by coordinate system using a
total station instrument by the licensed surveyor. Each CBP point
shall be set out and verified by the Engineer before piling works
commence. The pile positions will be marked by licensed surveyor
at the working area with a painted peg (steel pins) that will be

to the piling program of that day and will be extracted once the
piling concreting is completed.
During installing the casing, its position and verticality will be
checked every two meters deep, in accordance with specification.
Casing position will be checked by measuring the distance from
each offset peg to the edge of the casing. Verticality will be
checked in two perpendicular directions by using spirit level.
The verticality will be controlled by means of a long base level
alternatively positioned in two mutually perpendicular directions
on the casing or with two plumb lines located on perpendicular
axis.
The position of top of the casing will be checked by graphical
survey service after its installation and should be in accordance
with specified tolerances.
Maximum allowable deviation in position is 75mm.
Maximum allowable inclination is 1.5%.
If the exposed casing length is less than 1 meter above working
platform a wooden cover will be located on top of each casing in
order to prevent people falling into the bored hole. No worker will
be allowed to position near the hole.
f) Boring of Borehole
After the rig set up, drilling of the pile will commence. The
sequence is listed below:
1) Lowering of bucket attached to the Kelly bar into the casing
until soil is encountered.
2) Rotation and pull down applied to the bucket by the rotary table
through the Kelly bar, in order to load the excavation tool with
soil material and penetrate the soil itself.
SINOHYDRO

and

accordingly.
After completion of bottom cleaning, check and verification of final
depth of borehole shall be conducted by the Engineer.
In the event of borehole continues to collapse, the temporary
casing will be driven deeper or the borehole will be backfilled.
h) Installation of Steel Cage
The level at the top of the poured pile will be at the bottom level
of the cap or slightly higher. Starter bar will be proposed to use
750mm into the capping beam.
Prior to installation the reinforcement cage, inspection and sign-off
shall be conducted by the Engineer.
SINOHYDRO
SINOHYDRO
When the additional cage is firmly linked with the main one, the
service crane will raise the total element in order to remove the
stopper beams and lower the cages into the pile excavated shaft.
The total length of reinforcement will be lowered to the design
level. The cage shall be suspended from the top by ropes to the
casing to adjust the steel top level based on design level.
The lifting operations will be performed in a manner that cage will
not be distorted. No special lifting points are provided into the
cage since this would involve some welding which is strictly
prohibited. There will be an internal ring (section of ring & 25 mm)
crossed tied to the main rebar near the top of every section of
cage. The cage will be lifted through hooks hooked to the ring
itself. All the parts involved in the lifting activities will be
dimensioned in accordance with the maximum cage weight.
Reinforcement cages will be stored in dry area and shifted nearby
piles just before installation. Cages will be stockpiled off the
ground on wooden timbers and covered by a plastic sheet tied in
such a way to resist to the wind/water and to avoid contamination
by soil and to minimize corrosion.
i) Installation of Tremie Pipe
The casting platform will be placed in position at the top of casing
to place concrete. Generally the tremie pipe elements will be
lowered at the centre of pile shaft for its full length.
The number of tremie pipe sections will be determined by the
depth of the pile to be concreted. Tremie should be kept embedded
in concrete by 3.0m minimum. Tremie will be clean and water tight
throughout.
At the end of each concrete pile, the tremie shall be cleaned for the

that

characteristics
suit
the
Technical
Specifications.
If the excavation is left open for more than 12 hours before starting
the concrete placement, the borehole will be re-cleaned and the
Engineer must be notified also and given the opportunity to inspect
and attend the re-cleaning.
Concrete will be continuously placed throughout the whole
placement process to ensure a smooth operation. The tremie pipe
will be slowly and smoothly lift up using the service crane keeping
its bottom embedded 3.0m minimum into fresh concrete.
The tremie pipe will have a minimum diameter of 250mm and shall
be clean and watertight.
To shorten the tremie pipes they will be lifted from the pile shaft by
the service crane and stopped on the casting platform by special
forks which insert below the coupling enlargements of the pipes;
the extra elements will be removed and the topping element
replaced on the shortened column in order to continue the pouring.
In order to achieve a complete homogeneous casting height,
concrete will be over poured at the working platform level.
There is no need to vibrate the top 1.5 m of concrete for following
reasons:
1) The casing is removed always & only through vibro extractor
which ensures all the needed vibration.
2) After casing extraction no additional concrete is added to
