Drop in for an informal tour of the garden/outdoor classroom; harvest veggies and herbs ready to

new level of creativity and engineering! Examples: movie characters,
a backhoe loader, an Operation game with buzzers and lights - you
are only limited by your willingness to experiment and work!
Planning sessions include making a shopping list of items needed for
your costume. You will need to supply your own materials; Proto can
provide advice and lots of tools, but they wont make it for you!
Proto, Inc. is a non-profit organization and library partner dedicated to
helping people learn design, engineering, coding and fabrication skills

Global Cardboard Challenge 2016: A Day of Creative Making with
Proto! Drop in to collaborate, learn and build anything you can
dream up using cardboard, recycled materials and imagination.
Many tools, cardboard and supplies are provided. Bring your own
clean plastic bottle caps, corks, additional tape or hot glue and other
crafty materials to use and share. Watch the 11-minute film Caines
Arcade (shown on demand) and see other examples for inspiration.
This annual event sponsored by the Imagination Foundation has
reached 350,000 participants in more than 60 countries!
Photographs will be taken and shared on the Global Cardboard
Challenge Photo Blog. Children under age 10 must bring a
supervising adult.

After-Hours Hispanic Heritage Family Night - Featuring the Tonantzin
Dance Company Starting at 6:00 pm, stop in to create childrens
crafts and play lotteria (bingo in Spanish and English) for small
prizes. At 7:00 pm, enjoy a Mexican folk dance performance by the
Tonantzin Dance Company, directed and choreographed by Rose
Alcal-Ament. Rose previously worked with Ballet Folklorico de
UCLA and has performed with similar groups for 30 years. Tonantzin
has performed in over 200 venues, spreading appreciation for the art,
skill and history of dance from various regions and time periods in
Mexico. After the performance, refreshments will be served, and
adults and kids are welcome to watch, listen or participate in informal
Latin ballroom and folk dance demonstrations. Doors will open at
5:45 pm.

Camp-Out Play Night with Maisy and Smores! Bring your
imagination for creative play with tents, play food grills, fishing,

FIRST EVER LIBRARY COMIC CON!

This family-friendly event is for all ages! Heres your chance to
dress as your favorite super hero or movie character or just hang out
with fellow fans of Doctor Who, Star Trek or Settlers of Catan. Enter
a cosplay contest, participate in new and favorite games, shop and
meet the creators at our Artist Alley, and much more! Featured
speaker: Alex Bledsoe, author of many books including the Tales of
the Tufa series. Thank you to Gnome Games, Powers Comics, The

Learn about Writing Code and Inventing with Arduino!

This is a hands-on introduction to the basics of writing code,
building small electronics, inventing, and interacting with
your environment using Arduino. Arduino is a credit-cardsized, programmable microcontroller that can read sensors
and will turn on lights, run motors and more, based on the code you

Read About Robots Day with Award-Winning Author Miranda Paul and
Trainbots School groups and home-schoolers are invited to this free,
high-energy presentation. Miranda will reveal a few ways that authors
are like inventors. Shell also read from her picture book Trainbots and
talk about how the rhythm, sentence fragments and illustrations
support this train-robot mashup. Copies of Mirandas books can be
pre-ordered for autographing. Groups of 10 or more must call ahead

crafts and stories. Meet local author Miranda Paul as she reads and

An After-Hours Haunted Happening The doors will open at 5:45 pm
for family-friendly fun for kids, followed by gruesome paranormal stuff
for teens and adults! Younger kids can enjoy the suspense and humor
of not-too-scary storytelling and then create a Franken-Toy with parts
of toys and other objects in Protos makerspace workshop. Ages 1218 can team up to take on the challenge of our Escape Room. Teens
and adults can check out our horror games, show and tell booth and
attend the 7:00 pm Visiting the Beyond presentation on some of our
countrys most haunted locations by paranormal explorer Curt Strutz.

NaNoWriMo and how you can prepare.
Ice Age Adventures at the Neville Public Museum

Arduino Club: Project Serial Monitor For students who have
previously attended an Arduino at the Library event - build
new projects and learn more about coding at Arduino Club!
This sessions guided project: Learn to use Arduinos serial
monitor to receive and send data, track temperature and
light in the room, and control LED lights from a computer.
Students who have previously attended our Serial Monitor
project session can attend the second 45 minutes for open play with
our kits and extra electronic components. Bring ideas or well help

Visit any participating library to enter for a chance to win a prize and to recharge with free WiFi, device-charging
